According to CL,Hawaii has been wanting to secede for quite some time.
The Jones Act sez you gotta have a US laid keel so you don't have to call on an international port during the duration of the cruise. If you're cruising the west coast you either hit Ensenada or B.C. depending on where the boat's heading.
If it's from the west coast to Hawaii then Encenada is the stop. Fuel is also much cheaper there.
If the trip is just in the Hawaiian islands then it's a 400 mile jaunt south to Fanning Island.
The Hawaiian sovereignty groups have been at it for years. They hate the US and each other. If you want a fairly balanced view go to

Marginal food, and last time I went the waitress lacked in the hooters arena.
We have a place in town called "Twin Peaks", but my wife never wants to go :/
