We did not have any open houses. In the two weeks it was on the market it was shown about 15 times; each time their agent was with the potential buyers. (This was designed to prevent small items from walking away.)
Most of the time we were home. When the potential buyers arrived we would go to the family room in the basement. When they were done with the top floor and were in the kitchen, we would go upstairs, and then they would finish downstairs.
And we did not do any cosmetic work, but did get Service Master in for two days to do a real deep cleaning, and also clean the rugs.
Yeah no open houses. And we HAD to have our house staged by a professional (it is a 6100 sq ft luxury home in a **Nice** neighborhood

) I was so pissed at the stager, because she packed up EVERYTHING and I mean, everything I needed. Like all my sweaters and winter clothes??? Hello!!! It snows here in Denver in the Winter and now we have been through 2 since she put them all in storage. I had to buy some new sweaters and coats. That costs! And I don't need them, if I am gonna move to Florida! I will donate them to the coat drive here in the Winter. I shoulda followed her around even more than I did. She got pissed because I wanted things a certain way. I fired her.
We have had only single showings by appt. and the agent is supposed to stay with the folks the whole time. We are not allowed to be here when they show, but we were for one and I am glad. It was an eye opener. We just pulled it off the market for now, because it has been a year a half on. It gets stale and if we wait til it is empty and we are gone, then it can show all it wants with no problems. Heck, they can even have an open house. Ain't gonna be nothing of mine left here to steal! ;)
We have a shitload of stuff in storage already that was SUPPOSED to be sold at a yard sale, but thanks to the overzealous stager, I now have to move it and pay by weight to move it, and have my garage sale where ever we end up! Grrrrrr..... That bitch ended up costing us more than we ever thought. I hate stagers, since I decorate and have a great eye. If it had not been for my back, I would have done it all myself. Back problems do not make for a good stager and moving heavy furniture! ;(
When it goes back on the market, we will be out of it and it will be empty. Not as much as a dustbunny left here. And I hope the Orion's ghost, who I keep seeing all over the house, comes with us! :)
I HATE selling a house. We have done it several times. We had several rentals in california and decided NOT to be landlords anymore and that was fun, NOT! And we sold the place we lived in in Berkeley, actually that one was fairly easy. This one is gonna be a bitch, due to the market, it could be a few years to unload it. We had most of the hits on our website from Silicon Valley! Figures. it is that type of home. I don't know why on God's green earth we bought this, well....I know why, but all those circumstances have changed and we no longer need this big place. I WANT OUT NOW!!!!!!!

Cheshire Figment wrote:It was a retractable. I had the throttle at full, gear and flaps up, and I was in a shallow descent. I was doing 145kts, while a B-727 in full landing configuration does about 120 kts.
But I was with a couple of friends, and we were going to a Mensa Convention at the Ramada Inn O'Hare, so why not go into the closest airport?
And even with the parking and landing fees (as well as aircraft rental), it actually cost less than airline and gave a bit more scheduling freedom. Of course, I quit any drinking around midnight Saturday, and we did not depart until about 2:00pm.
Let's sing it again, Pilots!
YO HO, YO HO,
A Pilots Life for me!
Har, har, har...**snicker** oh by the way, that was a Slicker Snicker! :D: ;)
