Stupid Guest Tricks

The last time it snowed in CF was 35 years ago. So I guess that it would be considered uncommon!

I'm doing fine. There have been a few days with ice accumulation. One morning one of the people in my apt complex slid on the ice and damaged a gas meter outside my apt. I don't know why they have all the gas meters on the wall facing the parking lot, and right at bumper height, with no protections to prevent accidents. I didn't know about it until they came around to relight the water heater and furnace.

One other night, I had a hard time walking to my car to get to work, but the roads were generally clear (tho everyone was driving at about 20mph and stopping distance was about a city block). And I was late to work one night as the ice on my windshiled was so thick and hard that after 15 min I had almost gotten down to the glass in one small "scratch".

But so far the worst of the ice storm has slid just to the west and north of me. Roads here are clear the last two days while trees are down and power is out for huge areas just 45 miles west of me.

My fingers are crossed as they are predicting another possible wave of freezing rain and ice later this week. (gee it's hard to type with your fingers crossed)

Actually they want to get the same retractable dome design as WDW has, but are having trouble finding the manufacturer. For some reason when they call Disney and inquire there seem to be telephone problems as the phones always disconnect before they can get an answer. :D:

Wow, I would be using some serious "sick" days! I remember having to live in that weather growing up! Brrrr!!

Well, that would require that there be someone who can sub for me (in radio, there HAS to be someone here). The only person that can sub for me lives an hour away via country roads that are MUCH worse in heavy weather. I live less than a mile away from major city streets that get worked on first. And a normal day the drive to work is under 10 min. So it is much more likley that Paul (the sub) would have to take a day off due to not being able to get to work than I am.

Besides my coworkers know how crazy I am. For many years I drove my motorcycle to work all year long. I got very good at driving a bike on ice and in snow. It's fun to be riding in a snow storm (on top of ice) when you hold your legs out to the sides to act as outriggers to keep you from falling over, and the force to push the front tire through the snow is more than the amount of traction the back tire has on the ice underneath. So the back tire is constantly trying to pass the front. Makes for an interresting ride. The rides I really hated was when the temp dropped to -20 and then you add in the wind from the bike moving, the chill went down to nearly -70+. It just isn't possible to put on enough layers and still be able to move.

Holy crap!! You should get those little mini-skis for your feet, to make really good outriggers!! OR get a snowmobile!!!

I rode my bike year 'round to get to work on the Mainland. I got frostbite twice on my social finger.

Yep, we are supposed to get snow again starting tonight! Another of those 1-3 in the city, 4-6 in the foothills. We will probably see 4-5 inches on top of what we already have. More pictures anyone??? :D: I am sick of the snow already...we will have had 3 snowsorms this week after tonights!! At least they are NOT blizzards and delivering feet of snow like last year!!! I see that that horrible ice storm is moving east and the east coast is supposed to get hit hard with a nor'easter along with the cold, brutal!!!!! I was concerned Randy, after watching the news, figured maybe you had lost power and could not post! Thank God, you are all right. This has been a nasty fatal storm all over, now, I think, they said 23 states!!!! That is one big mutha of a storm.

You too? I had a 71 Yamaha XS650 and rode it for years, back and forth to work and everywhere else too. It was my only *vehicle* at the time and we had the worst floods and rain in Sonoma County and I rode that bike into work. Of course, I had changes of clothes! I was soaking wet by the time I got to work, about 6 miles from where I lived. The wind was so bad one day, it was literally blowing me off the road. I did everything I could to hold that bike on the pavement and did it!

I loved my motorcycle. I miss it. I used to ride the wide country roads out iin the wine country and open it up. There was nothing like it. Feeling air pockets and just cruising a long until some jag in a car tries to turn in front of you cause he *didn't* see you. I got dropped once, due to a car turning out in front of me, had to scamble the bike to the shoulder and it slid. Dumbass driver coulda killed me. :mad: Ralph will NOT let me get a bike and I understand. Because of his accident, he just flinches everytime he hears our neighbor's bikes being throttled.
I swear Randy, we are twins. Or we are one person with a split personality in two different states living parallel lives as a woman and a man!! It must have something to do with the space-time continuum! I love that continuum..so many fun things happen there! ;)

DIA was *supposed* to be all-weather until 8 weeks of blizzards last year proved that *You do NOT mess with Mother Nature*. She showed them that she is just a little more powerful than that little aeroport out there on the EASTERN PLAINS where everyone knows that blizzards shut everything down. Even us San Francisco type Northern Californians know THAT! If they had kept Stapleton, we may not have had the problems last year. They were so unprepared for so much snow. They know better now to have that equipment at the ready at the hint of snow!
I just hope we keep the snow coming down in inches if it has to come down. We can deal with that. There have been some delays during the snow but no closures out at DIA so far...this year...yet... DAMN WELL BETTER NOT BE ANY, next week when we get outa here for the balmy 50s and 60's of SoCal. I see rain is expected on our second day there, the 21st! I can handle rain! I love California rain, it comes down more softly than our thunderboomers here! I miss California! :(

DIA was built after I moved away, but I recall when they first started planning and clearing land for it, a friend of mine who was a senior pilot for United (now retired) didn't know whether to be amused or stunned by the site location. He described the land it's built on as a place where he and his fellow pilots used to watch tornadoes touchdown during summer thunderstorms.
