I have been lurking here for quite some time, but I couldn't resist replying when I saw this post about my favorite band. Off Kilter is indeed alive and well and playing great music at the stage in Canada Sun-Thurs, 5 shows a day.TowerO wrote:I've tried to drink EPCOT several times now, but have yet to make it all the way around - it's not the drinking that gets me (I was one of those frat boys Kwahati mentioned :D: ), I just keep running out of money four or five countries in! On a similar note, one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon at EPCOT is grabbing a few drinks at the Rose and Crown and hanging out listening to Off Kilter (are they still there?) or the Beatles cover band (whose name I can never freaking remember!)

Back on topic....
I was talking to someoen on a car forum I visit. was telling them how much I like Disney and all. When I talk to people that ar enot huge Disney guest, I go into the conversation waiting to hear a ride or park named wrong. But what I heard was a little unexpected.
Me: Yeah I like MGM Studios too.
Him: Do they still have the huge Mickey head there?
Me: What huge Mickey head? The big Blue hat?
Him: No. They had a big Mickey head on a pole a while back.
Me: (Realising he's refering to the water tower.) Oh, you mean the water tower in the bac lot?
Him: NO, NO! It was a HUGE Mickey head that you could see on the tram ride thing that went through an earthquake.
Me:
:flamethro Thats the water tower. It has Mickey ears on it, but it's not a Mickey head.

I went through this thread kinda fast, so pardon me if this is a repeat of someone else's post on incorrect terminology: I can't tell you how many times I have heard folks refer to the MK as "Disney". As in "I went to Epcot Tuesday, MGM Studios Wednesday and then to Disney on Thursday".

I know what you mean I hate that. You woudl think if they were smart enought to know the names of the other parks, they would know Magic Kingdom.idratherbeinwdw wrote:I went through this thread kinda fast, so pardon me if this is a repeat of someone else's post on incorrect terminology: I can't tell you how many times I have heard folks refer to the MK as "Disney". Re: Guest Terminoligy
There's a ton of people who call Magic Kingdom by the wrong name. The two I hear most often are calling it either Disneyland, or thinking that it is Walt Disney World, without having a clue what the rest of the place is called. Amazing how many people don't realize that Walt Disney World isn't one park, but rather 4 major parks, 2 water parks, 2 mini-golf courses, a few full-sized golf courses and 22 resorts (gee, have they drilled that into me enough? hehe)
I hear a lot of cast members call Spaceship Earth the giant golf ball. Seems that's a pretty common one.
Also love all the fun acronyms for EPCOT:
Every Person Comes Out Tired
Extreme Polyester Comstumes of Torture
and a few others...

Re: Guest Terminoligy
I don't mind this too much. For 10 years, until EPCOT Center opened, WDW was just 1 park, the MK. So a lot of "old timers" still refer to the MK as WDW because that's how they referred it to it for a long time.SirWillow wrote:There's a ton of people who call Magic Kingdom by the wrong name. Will we still be calling saying "MGM" if and when the MGM name goes away? I'm sure a lot of us will use that name for quite a while when referring to the park.
Re: Guest Terminoligy
Same at WDW, so yes, it still works. :)
