As a former member of AFSCME, don't forget that local and state governments also deal with unionized employees. I became a member of the union because if I joined I got a vote, but if I didn't join I still had to pay the agency fee and had no vote. I did not like many of the folks involved in the leadership of the union when I had to interact with them. When some cuts were proposed to the department and I had to show the union how this would affect the productivity of those that were left, I was told, "This is going to happen so what do you really want? You might as well accept it." They are willing to horse-trade jobs, the positions don't mean anything since they usually don't know the person being affected.
How did I get up here on this soapbox? I'll step down now.

The Service Trades Council Union and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc./DVC Management Corp. (Disney) have reached another tentative agreement.

Disney has agreed to reinstate the $100.00 bonus previously offered to Cast Members to approve the contract. In addition, Disney has also agreed to offer an additional $100.00 bonus to those Cast Members currently making less than $8.50 per hour.

Four out of the six STCU member unions have endorsed the agreement. Unite HERE Local 362 and United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1625 have both announced their opposition to it and are recommending a "No" vote from their respective memberships.

A vote has been scheduled to be held on 25 February 2011.

It's criminal that in 2011 there are cast members making less than $8.50/hour. Disney should pay its workers more.

The real issue is that federal minimum wage is $7.25. Disney is just paying the market rate for labor, it's not like they are severely understaffed. (or even really understaffed at all)

The Service Trades Council Union has announced polling locations for the vote to be held on Friday, 25 February. Polls will be open from 07:00 to 19:00. To be eligible to vote, you should be a Full Time Cast Member enrolled in good standing with the STCU member union covering your position.

Fight for something, complain it's not good enough, threaten strike, back off strike then ratify the contract. So they've basically voted, and passed, the SAME contract that they voted down the first go around last year.

And rejecting the first contract actually cost everyone money, because rather than the raise being effective back in October, now they won't be effective until April ... Way to go STCU!

The one we voted on in October didn't have the raise until April either.

The company and the Service Trades Council Union have also reached an agreement on the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Casual Regular Cast Members. STCU recommends a YES vote on the proposed agreement.

The vote will be held on Friday, 20 May from 0700 to 1900 in the Fantasia J-Q ballrooms at Disney's Contemporary Resort. Contrary to the Full Time vote, all STCU union members will vote at the same location.
