Anytime I've had a discussion with someone who feels it's perfectly fine to just whip them out and feed their baby, I point out that in some situations (and especially a place like Disney parks) it's being respectful of other people. The thing I always point out is that by completely exposing yourself, you may be forcing another parent to have the sex talk with their child before they had intended to. So, by exposing yourself to breast-feed, you are taking away their right to explain sex to their children when they choose to.
And for the record, I did breast-feed my daughter, and I did it without covering twice, once in a movie theater and that was just long enough to get her positioned (I couldn't see anything in the dark and under the blanket) and once at dinner when my husband had dropped me off in a hurry and I left the diaper bag in the car and that was a very secluded table and to be honest, with my large baggy t-shirt down as much as possible, you couldn't see anything anyway.
I think you hit on it. its returning the respect to the others present that a breastfeeding mom is showing, by being a bit discreet.
we went to Disneyland with DIL and with baby grandson. she managed to feed all throughout our stay with no problem.
once she used the center off main street. Other times, just a handy bench. no big deal, and I seriously doubt that anyone knew what was going on, as she would choose an out of the way place to set down and rest while doing so.
I really don't understand the militant attitude against women breastfeeding in public, but by the same token, I don't really understand why some moms feel the need to exhibit the menu in public.
a little courtesy goes a long way. (on both sides)(no pun intended)

I believe you misread my post. I do not say that mothers should have to do breast-feeding in restrooms. What I did say is that perhaps there should be regulations for building that will be open to the public to have a certain amount of space reserved for use by mothers for the purpose of breast feeding.

I wish!!!!
We just had this problem with a mom at my daughter's school. The mother is a frequent volunteer, and brings the children who are too young for school with her, and sits in the front office and blatantly (no blanket, no nursing shirt) nurses the 2 and 3 year olds. She has something like 6 children, don't know her well, but have heard MANY tales...
They have asked her to please go into the infirmary, or the principal offered the use of the teacher's nursing/pumping lounge, but she sees this as the aforementioned violation of her rights, and it 'makes her sad that she can't fulfill her function as a woman'. At the same time, you have 12-14 year old boys making up all kinds of excuses to walk past the office to watch. She does the same thing at the elementary school her other children attend as well, with the same results.
This has been brought up to the school board and again, with Florida law the way it is all the school board can do (and has) is look her in the eye and say that you can't legislate basic decency and common sense.
Yep, lots of mothers and fathers are having to have some talks they weren't quite ready for - especially when you have spent years hammering in which body parts are private and not to be shown in public, particularly in front of the opposite sex. In middle school, this becomes something you hope to merely do as a refresher course, not present in a whole new way, KWIM?

While I was the type to cover (I always kept a blanket with me for modesty) while nursing, I would never begrudge a woman her need to nurse at will (skipping a feeding causes extreme discomfort). However, nursing in the middle of a school office, while volunteering, is ridiculous. I'm sure that's why the schools in my area have a policy that non-school aged children cannot accompany volunteering parents.
Also, any parent who hasn't at least broached the subject of sex with their 12-14 child is kidding themselves about the realities of teen sex.
Can I just say that I love the nursing facilities that Disney provides. However, in all the time I vacationed there with my kids, I only used them one, because the singular location typically wasn't convenient. Small rooms, with a chair, changing table, and sink set around periodically would be a godsend.
I was only approached once about my nursing in public ... I was at a booth, in the back of a Denny's, and a woman came from across the restaurant to tell me I should leave if I have to do that. I told her she could stop being rude and staring at me, and that would solve her problem. I'm not even really sure how she knew what was going on, because you couldn't even see her under the blanket.

Her Husband/Boyfriend probably kept walking by hoping to get a show.

Nursed all of my kids to varying degrees...the last three exclusively. I was always discreet, and you had to look VERY hard to catch a peek of something, lol. With my dd...we were at Target when she was very little..and she got fussy, so I found a bench and fed her. DH stood in front of me, facing out, glaring at anyone who even LOOKED in our direction, lol. I tried to tell him it wasn't needed, but he was guarding his women, I guess.
I was at the mall one Christmas while pregnant with my dd, and this lady and her family were behind us. She did the whole complete baring of the goods and dh and I just looked at each other. I was kind of shocked at how blase' she was about it...and no one said "boo" to her. Dh wanted to comment, but I told him to just leave it alone and not draw attention to her. She may have wanted a confrontation...and drawing attention would have drawn my two son's attention to her. And even though I would nurse at home with the younger kids without covering up (I thought as long as I didn't make the boys uncomfortable, it was good for them to learn that boobs are not just for ogling), I never did it in front of company or out in public without a cover.
