She tells him he can get the Midol at the drugstore, so he runs into the drugstore and tells the druggist to give him a can of Midol, and it's for him! Then he says his voice is no higher than it used to be, etc., it's just every 28 days he gets a little iritable.
That may be right. But now that I think of it the voice I am hearing in my memory sounds like George Carlin. So it is possible that I am remembering two different routines, and possibly blending them. (I'm hoping I can one day upgrade the memory in my head but when your memory is 1950's era modules it is hard to get upgrades. ) :D:

From your postings so far we have come to expect a much higher level of brain activity from you. Thanks for giving us hope for the current generation.

Aw shucks Randy! LOL! :D: I do try to rise above the normal expectations of a 18 year old and therefore counteract THAT form of judgement as well. I will say it is difficult nowadays to be mature and be accepted by your peers which may be why I feel a little isolated up here at school. I am glad you view me as mature, something I think my generation could use a little more of.

We were speaking of Bono earlier in the thread- OMG I just saw this: He got an artist friend of his to enlist artists to auction art for AIDS programs in Africa they raised 42 million dollars!!! http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=4301373
Bono has got a lot of leverage and he uses it to move people. An article a few years ago described him talking to a congressman about a bill to fund an AIDS program in Africa. The congressman was totally against it and without his vote the measure would have failed.

Bono told him he would have U2 play a concert in his home town for 50,000 people. The congressman's face would be displayed on large screens along with dying kids and the audience would be told he was the reason why.

The bill passed.

You beat me to it! I was singing that song in my head as I was reading these posts! When you are with Fred, you'll have a gay old time!

The gay nineties! It was a term that meant happy, fun...It was used to describe a whole period of history that I myself love to read about..Interesting time in our country's growth!

Here is a personal story:

I was raised by a semi rascist. I say that because my dad worked for the City of Berkeley Corporation Yard where they fixed all the police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, etc...etc...
My dad worked with men of many races, Black, Puerto Rican, Chinese...He was always friends with each INDIVIDUAL person, but when it came to the race as a group he did refer to them with less than nice words. I grew up in that environment. When I was young, I used those words as well. It changed when I could think for myself and wondered why my parents felt that way.

You should have seen my parents faces the first time they found out I was dating a black man. My friend who was living in our home at the time,(she moved out from Iowa to find work in Nor Cal) was also dating a black man. My parents FORBID her or me to bring them to the house.

They were born in 1922 and LEARNED from society the way they were SUPPOSED to think. They had no such thing as enlightenment or Civil Rights back then, when they were growing up.

I can forgive them their beliefs because they only knew that their entire lives! They have relaxed their views a LOT now. The world changed and they changed with it. Not 100%, because of you believe something from 1922 until the 1960's, when change was fomented in our society, it is not so easy to change your whole way of seeing the world. In some cases. there were people who felt these new ideas were FORCED on them by society. (I am condoning this, just relating what some folks felt when civil rights where passed.)

I find my mind still thinking these awful words if someone from that particular race has done something (such as a Black, Hispanic or Asian and even white person who has done something wrong and I hear it on the news. I am sorry to think those words that still pop into my mind. I force them away and talk to myself and try to remember that it came from years of hearing it.

I KNOW that all people are created equally and I am not a racist. I cannot seem to stop that inner flow of words that immediately pop when I see something. I also think of the word *White Trash* when I see a story on the news about whites doing something bad as well as all the choice words I learned very young about other races. I am not particular about my judgements when it comes to races. If I am angry at someone then the derogatory word for that race pops into my head. I NEVER say it out loud.
I apologize if this offends anyone here. I do not know how to change it. I certainly do not have hate in my heart for ANY race and have friends all over the world from many different countries and races.

My dad fought in WWII and there are many, many elderly white Americans that fought in that war that still have that feeling of unease with Asian, primarily Japanese people.

I have always loved the Japanese culture and would love to visit Japan. It is a beautiful country and of course they have DisneySea, the crown jewel of the Disney parks! ;) I have many Disney friends in Japan and hope to meet them and enjoy the country with them when we do go.

It dawns on me that this is one of the races my father hated the most, because of the war he was actually invoved in. My Uncle was in the Pacific Theatre and the whole family worried about him. And the fact that the Japanese actually attacked this country brought aLOT of anger to many Americans at that time. We cannot know what they felt, since we were not there. I can only imagine what the country felt as they saw another race of people bombing our country and it angered them. I know many elderly people who STILL feel this way and cannot stop the feelings when they come up. They cannot understand how we could be so forgiving after what "they" did. I was not born yet and so do not understand that hatred.

I wish I did not think those words when I see something on the news or am told of a situation, but years of conditioning does not stop that. I never feel that way about a group as a whole. It is usually in the case of a news story or a story I hear from someone. Interesting that it is opposite from my father.

The interesting thing is that it is probably more appropriate to be angry at an individual that has done something than a group, not that it is appropriate to use the terms to describe them. I never verbalize it and I am horrified that I still think it.

This is something very personal I just shared and I am not sure how to change that inner voice learned so long ago. I want to. I have never spoken of this with my parents or friends, because I am afraid they would not understand. I am not racist at all. But those words stick in my mind and I cannot seem to get rid of them. How do I go about banishing those words from my mind once and for all?

Hey man, whatever works! He's got a lot of. . .er. . .spunk, but when you think about the fact that what, some 5000 people a day I think he said in that link I posted (the video portion) in Africa are still dying of this disease. . .I can't blame him for putting pressure on politicians . . .who spend obscene money on some of the stupidest things imaginable without a thought.

Go Bono!!!

Susi, I think wanting to banish those words is the first and biggest step. I know that I had to retrain my brain to think around and discard many damaging messages I was raised with.

It's not easy and it takes effort. But you want to, and that's the key.

The only way I can equate it, is like seeing an SG at the Parks and immediately the term SG comes to mind. Now I don't run up to that person and point and say "SG! SG!" (maybe I should in this particular instance of someone being called something!)

Nor would I do that when I encounter anyone of a race that I catch doing something bad or evil. When I hear of gang violence in the news, I immediately think of a certain word when the pictures come up. I do not do the same if say, Barack Obama's face is on the screen. It is only when I see a story about the bad people of any race that these terms come up in my head. It is with any race, not just the one's you would normally think that people are racist over. I don't know why I still do it. I am far away from the influence of my parents (and they are not so out in your face about it anymore), yet I do live in a very red neck, Christian bible belt area. Denver is not so metropolitan. It is a redneck town and you hear these words a LOT! I try to avoid going anywhere, but still it is all around.

I HATE thinking that way. I wish I had been raised in a family that had absolutely NO racism or hatred for anyone. It is tough to stop thinking those words. But when I do catch myself thinking those words, I immediately out loud say "What a dumbass!" or "Geeze, these are some evil people!" or something that will get the focus off the word in my head and it works to some extent. I think something and say it out loud and the word goes away.

Like Susi, I grew up with those horrible words and ideas in my household (mostly from my idiot step-father) and they sometimes pop up in my thoughts( I am immediately ashamed but they are just like a poison you can't get rid of). I used to get in fights with my family because of his ideals, and I did take it personally because of my biological father's heritage.
Now, even though I am very careful about what I say around the kids, they
still might pop up with something inappropriate now and then. The word "Gay" comes to mind. I try to nip it in the bud but unfortunately there are too many influences out there. I hope they will realize how wrong that kind of thinking is.

Yesterday there was a report on the news on an area in ?Kenya? where the more overweight/ voluptuous women were considered more beautiful than the thinner women, now that is an attitude I could handle! :p:

You may be hearing George Carlin, but the "Midol, and it's for ME!" bit was recorded by Bill Cosby.

I think Carlin did the pill usage one: "two in the mouth son, these are white, but there will be other colors later!"
