For consistently thrilling landings, Kahului on Maui is always interesting. Just off the end of the runway is one of the highest rated wind surfing areas in the world.

If you like to work on a solid grip and leave your fingerprints in the seat arms, the Kawloon turn into the old Hong Kong airport was the landing for you. There were a couple of time I thought the wing tip was going to hook laundry hanging on balconies.

Yeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
Geez. And I thought the hard banking turn that they always make before landing in Syracuse was bad.

Hope you feel better soon Susi!

It is off the market for now. The sign is down, so I do not have to worry about my scrapbooking stuff spread out all over the place and my pins all over every table and surface in various stages of organization. Once we are out, they can show the place ANYTIME they want and even have an open house. But NOT while we live here with all our Disney collectibles, that have a tendency to leave in someone's pocket during these open houses. I am crossing my fingers, toes, legs and eyes for our chance to do this in the Fall.
Before Judy and I were ready to show the Virginia house we had 294 boxes (mostly 12x12x18) in off-site storage.

We did not have any open houses. In the two weeks it was on the market it was shown about 15 times; each time their agent was with the potential buyers. (This was designed to prevent small items from walking away.)

Most of the time we were home. When the potential buyers arrived we would go to the family room in the basement. When they were done with the top floor and were in the kitchen, we would go upstairs, and then they would finish downstairs.

And we did not do any cosmetic work, but did get Service Master in for two days to do a real deep cleaning, and also clean the rugs.

Most fun flying was when I was going into O'Hare International on a Friday afternoon in a Cessna 172 retractable and the tower told me to slow down as I was overtaking a 727.

It was a retractable. I had the throttle at full, gear and flaps up, and I was in a shallow descent. I was doing 145kts, while a B-727 in full landing configuration does about 120 kts.

But I was with a couple of friends, and we were going to a Mensa Convention at the Ramada Inn O'Hare, so why not go into the closest airport?

And even with the parking and landing fees (as well as aircraft rental), it actually cost less than airline and gave a bit more scheduling freedom. Of course, I quit any drinking around midnight Saturday, and we did not depart until about 2:00pm.

A couple of dozen posts ago, some of you asked me about what an aborted landing had to do with a presidential hair cut. The tale:

We were flying into LAX, and as usual, I was looking out at my home town, identifying the streets as we passed over them. We had just crossed Aviation and should have been making contact when I saw the flaps come up, felt the gear retract, and heard the engines come to full throttle.

I said to myself, "Self, this might be a good time for a little prayer." I agreed, and it seemed to work.

Once out over the Pacific, climbing up to the point we could make a turn for another go-round, the pilot keyed his mike, "Well folks, I decided not to land on account of there being another plane on the runway already. We're a bigger plane, and we did have permission to land, but since that other plane is Air Force One, I thought I'd give it a free pass. Hope y'all don't mind."

Sure enough, the news that night told about President Clinton stopping in LA just to get a haircut -- aboard Air Force One. It was all so secret that somebody decided not to tell the tower, and two other planes followed us into a near collision before the tower would believe what the pilots were telling them.

Now I'm all for an appropriate level of security around the Chief of State, but wouldn't it have been more secure if others knew not to land on top of him?

They did, the tower didn't notify everyone else. I remember that "stop" it made the news and really P.O.'d a LOT of people, because besides the obvious airport SNAFU, the had to CLOSE down a freeway for the motorcade!, IN Lost Angeles, In the afternoon. (can you say serious gridlock?)
