Humm I had been mistaken for a CM at MNSSHP in Oct and could not figure out why other than Steve and I were talking about our plans and how to avoid the hords of crotch fruit (this is what in private we call bad kids) this woman and her cute little girl come up and comment on our matching shirts (we made them for the party) and starts asking questions about Disney World after all we are CMs :( No matter what we did we could not get her to understand we were just happy paying guests who love Disney and yes we come to Disney every year sans kids. I did give the little girl one of my pins, she was so in love with my little Tink pin and had no idea what pin trading was.

So yes I wonder if the lanyards are the thing that makes the neophyte guest think others are CMs

It's the lanyards AND the pins. I rarely ware a lanyard, although we do wear the Passporter pouches, but we wear our Guest of Honor nametags and we've been asked lots of questions by guests. We were standing near the front of Test Track one day when it went down, and people kept coming up and asking when it was going to be running again, so we just told them it might be awhile and to check back later. There was a cast member at the end of the line telling people the ride was down, so we figured we were helping her out by letting people who came up to us know that the ride was down for awhile.

Yep, understood, and we even weighed those factors when deciding to let the kids wear something with their name on them. (Mine were taught "WHITE oval name badge," btw!) But in the end the positive interactions with (real) CM's far, far outweigh whatever risks they present. We've had some incredible memories made directly as a result of the name badges, and we recommend them. It's even worth the occasional SG!

Number 3. This one's a doozy.

My family and I are in the preshow holding area for Mickey's Philharmic, close to the doors. (But not too close -- if we're the first ones in, we have to go all the way across. Stand back a bit, and you get closer to the middle. So why can't the SG's figure this out? Why is it that the ones most likely to stop in the middle of the row are also the ones who have to be right next to the doors on the way in??? But I digress.)

Anyway, there's a large family nearby, with 3-4 adults, and five kids, all around age 8 and younger. Minnie's already announced that the doors will be opening soon, so... what better time for the adults to break out bagels and start coating them in peanut butter and jelly???

Naturally, the bagels are ready to go just as the doors open. The adults look a bit startled that this didn't turn out to be the ideal time and place for a leisurely snack, and shove the bagel halves toward the kids and say, "Everyone take one bite!"
...
I bet those SG's thought (like many before them) that this was a magic show and they could make those bagels disapear

THANK YOU for understanding how you don't WANT to be right infront of the doors when they open, and even if you end up there once inside the concert hallo you can lag behind and enter a row after a few families to end up in the middle. You have no idea how infuriating it is to be packing a lobby designed to comfortably hold 250 people with 487 grumpy smelly guests plus toddlers carried through the turnstyles when along comes the jackass that decides the direction the CM is instructing everyone to go isn't for them.

Oh and they couldn't have chosen a worse location for the manual door controls/PA box then right next to the doors, unaccessible in a packed lobby.

I think you're right that I'd enjoy being a CM for the most part, and if I could make it work I would. I did find myself looking for ways to make some magic for others -- taking pictures for them and the like.

Maybe in retirement.
It works for me!

Okay, here's

Number 2. This one happened on the cruise ship, and while it may not be as unusual or funny as some, it was witnessed by my son Brandon alone -- and he was so proud that he had his own SGT to report!!

Brandon was off exploring the Disney Wonder on his own. He was in an elevator lobby waiting for the lift to arrive when a mom and two kids walked by in a hurry. Now, at each elevator lobby, on each deck, there are huge ol' metal numbers and letters mounted on the walls between the elevator doors letting you know at a glance exactly where you are -- "Deck 6 Fore," for example, or "Deck 10 Midships."

Brandon was at "Deck 2 Aft," staring at that big number, when the mom and kids came by. He overheard this:

Kid: "What deck are we on?"

Mom: "I don't know."

Brandon was marveling that they could miss such obvious signage. But my one thought was, where did they think they were going in such a hurry if they didn't even know where they were???

Hi everybody! Been gone awhile, real busy! But glad to be back.

This reminds me of our trip last September. First night at Poly staying there. . .first time my dad is watching Wishes, and the music was barely audible.

Then two drunk women decided it would be funny to play ringtones on their phone and dance the ENTIRE show.

I was less than amused.

Gahhh.

Over all though I noticed much less cell phone use in the parks- maybe everyone's just texting now so it's quieter than them yammering in them which I cannot stand. . .

Hope everybody had good holidays around here!

Re: The Gingerbread House.

Y'know when we were there, they were handing out free taste samples from the sales window. It was a tasty house.

re: Being Confused for a Cast Member.

SGs will confuse anyone who has a clue for a cast member. My response when people ask is to point out that I have a goatee. This only confuses them, but it makes me feel better.

Good point, I have a full mustache but still get asked from time to time, guess I look "responsible" (hehehehe)
