They need to take a look at how we do it in the MK. The folded flag is handed to the veteran and they have a procession down Main Street to half way down Center Street where they stop and a Photopass photographer takes photos of the Veteran with the Color Guard, his family, etc. After that the flag is handed back to Security and is taken backstage at that point.
Why does Entertainment not want the flag handed to the Veteran? It's not like he's going to steal it or something! I can't think of a better person to handle the flag than a veteran, someone who fought for everything that flag represents!

Entertainment Dept. wants every move scripted with no American Flag given to an American Veteran. After a very long midnight cell call there is a real possibility Ernie won't be allowed to continue doing his Flag Retreat he so passionately believes in. He states Christmas Day will be the last day he'll participate in Flag Retreat if Entertainment Dept. insists on giving the orders.
Flag Retreat has been at DL in one form or another since 1955. Flag Retreat was not & still isn't totally military. The ceremony is done military style because Ernie is a 22 yr. USMC Veteran & knows perfect retreat protocol. This was not always the case. Security was in charge of Flag Retreat for many yrs. until Entertainment Dept. took over. Read earlier posts in this thread. There was never discussion regarding ending Flag Retreat! Ernie simply wants to give the lowered, folded American Flag to a veteran to hold during singing of God Bless America. After the ceremony the flag is escorted bacstage. Entertainment Dept. has an issue with this & has stated The American Flag is not to be given to anyone. Seems Legal Dept. is now involved & must make a ruling.
This is very disturbing to me. I do not want to see Flag Retreat destroyed by myopic people in Entertainment. Is there a way to take this to the press?
People may bash the Fox News Channel, but it takes issues involving U.S. Veterans and patriotism very seriously. On a local level, what about the O.C. Register? I think it's time to take it to the next level. I can't do it, I don't know enough about the situation other than what I have read here. There are however, people here on this board that do.

Why doesn't someone talk to the new Prez of DL,George whats/his/name?

I mean he's letting them put up 'swap-meet' tents out side of DTD?
The Flag Retreat is alot more tradition than that stuff.

I need phone numbers, email addresses and physical addresses ASAP. I know a few Disney fans who also happen to be very passionate about the military, some current and ex-military.
I might also have to dig out that Disney lawyers email address I had traded emails with. She was doing copyright stuff, but I bet she could get me to the right person...

Sounds like it's time to contact a few newspapers and TV stations. All it takes is one to pick up the flag and run with it.
Shoot some video and submit it to CNN's iReport.

Can I go to boards X,Y,Z and let them know what 'may' be going down on this issue? They do have quite a voice also on the inter-net.

that is not a bad idea. Many things like this benifit from "the light of day", when people are made aware of something.
I just would be careful about naming SGT as the "source" to avoid any backlash from management toward any CM's.
KWIM?

Oh Yeah,it would be one of those ,"I just saw this on another board" kinda things and then have a quick memory loss as to the source.
(wait for it folks.) ;)

Flag is not given to the veteran to keep. The veteran is given the American Flag only to hold during God Bless America. Ernie then gets flag back & it's escorted off stage where flag is kept under lock until the next a.m.
Kman, let me get back to you later in a pm or on FB. Ernie has been on phone all day. Need to run your post by him.

You certainly can, & I wish you would darph! No mention of STG site is needed. Simply state you were told abt the issue by a CM friend of Ernie's who he has asked to help him with the battle. All true. The more we have "out there" the better.
