Number 5. At the Grand Floridian, where we are admiring the large, amazing gingerbread house. I'd seen it on the Travel Channel, but it is even more impressive in person. The amount of work and detail in it is amazing.

Even more amazing is the two little kids, a boy and a girl around 4 or 5 years old, inside the ropes on the side of the house pulling things off of the house and eating them. And where's mom, you might ask, as we did? Standing not five feet away at the ropes, watching the sabotage with a completely disinterested expression on her face! (She must be distracted by the sound of the wind whistling in one ear and out the other.)

Thankfully my father-in-law chases them off. Is mom concerned at all? Apparently not. She just wanders off with the kids in tow, probably to look for some other work of art to destroy.
I saw something that this reminds me of when I stayed at the Poly a couple of years ago. I was hanging out in the lobby waiting for the rest of my family to show up. A couple of darling boys walk up to the little pond in the center and proceed to start ripping out plants and tossing them around. The parents were not three feet away, and couldn't have cared less. I looked at the kids, and looked at the dad and said "You have got to be kidding me". That was all I could say, anything else that wanted to come out of my mouth would have either gotten me squashed like a bug or arrested. I hate hate hate parents who do not care what their kids are doing, as long as they are not bugging them! Why did you have kids if you can't be bothered to discipline them?

thats funny, I bet a few hours later they turned into super poopers. I worked a few times as a baker, and a display is not baked to be eatten. they put plaster of paris and other stuff in it to brighten the colors and make it last a long time and keep bugs away. while the add in stuff is not poison, it will make you do double dootie. i.e. my super pooper comment.

Wouldn't the plaster of paris have the opposite effect and plug them up? Either way. they got what was coming to them.

You sound like you speak from experience.

I should probably not post this, as I am kinda afraid of the answer.

This all gave me a good laugh. It's nice to think that the kiddos -- and mom -- will get their just desserts. So to speak. :D:

Keeping 'em rolling:

Number 4, courtesy of two guys in the Animal Kingdom who mistake me for a cast member. Now, if you've followed my trip report at all, you know that I am mistaken for a CM a lot. It's uncanny. And it happened more on this trip than the previous two combined -- so much that I stopped keeping count.

(My most often-said phrase this trip, always in response to "Can I see your pins?," is "Yes, but I'm not a cast member so I don't have to trade." A few say "Really?" but take time to look at and compliment the pins, which is nice. Most, though, scowl and say "never mind" or just walk off.)

Still, mistaking me for a CM is usually an honest mistake, not a SGT in and of itself. But the two 20-something guys that approach me on New Year's Day as my son Brandon & I are walking back towards Everest (following a good soaking on Kali River Rapids) go above and beyond, and into SG territory.

"Can we see your pins?" they ask.

"Sure," I reply, going into automated response mode, "but I'm not a cast member so I don't have to trade."

"Really?" one of them says. "So... what do you do for them?"

I have no idea what he's asking. "Huh?"

"What do you do for the Disney company?"

I'm baffled. I've basically just denied working for Disney, but they are so sure I do they think "cast member" is just one position, and I must work for the Mouse in some other job.

A number of cutting responses flash to mind, the most obvious being "give them my money and visit their parks," but I'm too nice sometimes. (Hey, they're just asking questions, not trying to butt in line like the kid at Soarin'.)

So I clarify that I am a guest, not employed by Disney in any sense. They seem disappointed and walk away -- back to their own SG world, I guess.

It must be that look of intelligence on your face! Actually, I have been mistaken as a Disney Store employee while at our local mall (while wearing my nurse's scrubs) and as a "Wal -Mart Employee" while wearing the same. In my case, it was probably the fact that I wear my work ID on my pin Lanyard...lucky my supervisor allows it. :D:

I am also constantly mistaken for a CM. This is with my ball cap, full beard, camera around neck, etc. I even had one CM several years ago who thought I was a CM.

Of course it has gotten worse since the Disney Photogs now wear a photo vest that looks a lot like the vest I have been wearing in the parks for years. So people see the vest and the DSLR camera and try to hand me their photopass card.

Actually, I can see the last part happening quite easily. A lot people don't know that Disney park employees are called cast members.
