In Hawaii snow cones are known as shave ice. We do get snow alerts but only for Haleakala (10,000 feet) or the two Maunas (13,000 feet) on the Big Island.

Okay, I just KNEW someone would go there... Well, if there had been a gusty wind today when he was shovelling, you woulda seen more than rosy cheeks. That's my Ralphie! He is a goof. I told him to put some pants on, but does he listen to me? Nooooooooooooo...... That is his usual attire, a nightshirt, moccasins and a Pooh Hat. Weird guy! I pointed out the difference to my neighbor John, in their shoveling attire and he said Ralph better be careful, he could get in trouble for being a Porn Pooh! Ralph is just very *natural*. You live in a hospital for 2 and a half years and see how much modesty you can retain. People there see every last inch of you, and I mean EVERY last inch. :D: Ralph has always run around out in the yard in a nightshirt, I can't stop him. And me, YESI was barefoot in 15 degree weather! I love it. it is *refreshing*! Especially when those hot flashes come on! The cold is great for those moments! :D:
Love the pic of Hawaii, hobie, it is just too small!!!!! I need to see some beach, some ocean and some sand, surf and sky! Palm trees! Florida! Anaheim, but a VERY specific place in Anaheim! ;) I'll be there in 10 days! YAY!!!!!!!
Anybody want to fly in and help shovel the next round of snow storms? We have several shovels. You just have to be willing to wear a nightshirt, Mickey Mouse Ears and sandals! :hysteria:

Instead of the "polar bear" club, you could start the "Polar-mouse" club, everyone shovels snow in mickey ears, night shirt and pooh slippers!! Hmmm probably get in the papers!!

I'm glad here in Seattle we typically get the happy medium when it comes to snow. When it snows it typically doesn't accumulate on the ground; it melts right away. If it does accumulate it usually rains within a couple of days and melts it all away. Exactly what happened two weekends ago. We got to have snowball fights and make snow angels, and some of the neighbors' kids made a snowman. But then we didn't have to shovel or put on chains or anything like that because it rained the next day (which unfortunately turned into a deadly flood for many people south of us). My 2-year-old has been asking for snow ever since. It did snow yesterday but it turned to rain within an hour so no accumulation. Fortunately we can drive 40 miles east and get all the snow he wants.

Last year of course was a freak winter for us. Got a foot of snow, then the next day the temperature got just above freezing, so the top started melting. Then the temperatures dipped back below freezing at night, and whatever started melting froze back into a nice sheen of ice which would have been great for ice skating but was not great for driving on. I still remember sitting in a restaurant with my in-laws on the last day of our Thanksgiving vacation in LA last year. The big screen in the restaurant was showing the Monday Night Football game between the Seahawks and Packers. We assumed the game was in Green Bay because of all the snow on the field. Then they started showing the Space Needle and the downtown skyline and we realized, "Holy crap, that's Seattle!"

I spent a Christmas in East Washington state many years ago in a little tiny town called Kettle Falls. It had the distinction of being named "All American Small Town" by then President Nixon! We had so much snow and the temp was -28. We had to wear snowmobile suits outside, it was frigid! -28. Now that is cold, even for me. I did not know Ralph back then, I was about 25 which would have made him 15, ! But I bet he would have shoveled even in that temp! Crazy dude...*shakes head and sighs again*
I had to fly to Seattle from SFO, then catch one of those smaller commuter planeses to Spokane, then my sister had to drive like 90 miles south to pick me up. Kettle Falls, Colville and a little place called Boyds which had population: 15 were all up there. (And she made me eggses for breakfast! ;) I KNOW you ALL will get that reference! )
My sister lived in a log cabin in Boyds for a while as well, she was married to a real live Lumberjack. (let's all sing it...Oooooooooh, I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay....) I got to visit her and go to the World's Fair when it was there in Washingtom, mid 70's sometime! Spokane's Worlds's Fair, not Seattles. All those little tiny dot towns on the map are very near the Canadian border and near to Banff on the other side. We did a day trip over to Banff. Beautiful country up there! I got to see the Northern lights for the very first time in my life that trip! I want to see them from an Alaskan cruise ship! And I want to pet the cute wittle Polar bears too..... Zazu, we NEED a Polar Bear. :D: pweeze
Anyway I was only in Seattle for a layover at 12 midnight and it was snowing as we flew in and snowing harder the further east we went to Spokane. It was a bit scary for me, cause I hate flying big commercial planes and with the snow it was even more scary! They did a great job though, experienced Pilots driving the plane! :D: No naked drunk Pilots back then... :twisted:

You must be in southern Seattle. I lived in Everett for nine years and slogged through the snow to school every day for months. The last thing that touched the wind before we got it was the Aleutian Islands. It was co-co-co-cooollldddd!

Do you know the legend of Mt. Rainier? If you can see the mountain it's going to rain. If you can't see it, it is!!
