In general, they say that all gratuities received by employees who don't normally receive them must be declared to management and, if management decides that the gift is of a nominal value and was a genuine show of appreciation (not a bribe or something illegal), the employee is usually allowed to keep it.
A couple of times I tried to turn in a $20 tip. Both times the manager said, "Put that back in your pocket, you moron!" :oweye:

I guess that means they thought I deserved it, but it could just be they wanted to avoid the paperwork.

Natural conclusion: That is just a rule that we have so we can point to it at certain times when convenient.

My trainers were interesting about that, too. They all told me that if I received a tip, I should tell a manager if I could find one... but since on any given day I am not likely to meet a manager, it's not really my problem.

Semi related: while we're down there in Nov, one of our group will have a birthday. I am planning to have a Cheescake Factory cheesecake delivered. The thing is, we'll probably each just have a small slice... I don't really want the rest to go to waste. If I cut it and plate it (I'm going to have disposable stuff delivered from a net-shopping source) and bring them to the front desk of the hotel, will they be allowed to sneak away for a minute to have a snack? Or will management be afraid of us poisoning their staff? (It won't hurt my feelings if I have to throw it away, but I don't want to deprive anyone of perfectly good cheesecake!)

Edited to add: if any CM's from this site want to come by and have a slice, you'd be more than welcome! PM me and we'll set something up! (We'll be staying at Port Orleans Riverside if that affects your planning at all...)

You mentioned food. There are plenty of Cast Members, just on this site, that can help you there.

I can see you now "folks we're making a quick stop here at PO, stay on the bus, I'll be right back..."

Free Cheesecake Factory cheesecake at PO? I'm there. I'll just have to be working AK that day so that I can take my 10-81 at the cast service bldg there.

Just a note to the WDW CMs, look out, I'm on my way.

I wil be arriving on thu night (Oct 4th). I'll be around for almost 3 full weeks. I'll be the 50ish guy wearing an SGT button (and sometimes an SGT hat). Since I don't know how to recognize most of you on sight I'll let the button be the identifier. If any of you see me, say hi. I promise not to bite (much). :D:

I'll be watching for you. How much time do you plan to spend in the parks? Where are you staying? Do you have internet access so we can plan a big 'ol meetup? Of course, I am not in the mood to eat with people... ever since dinner three weeks in a row, plus some friends who just left this morning to go back to Vancouver who insisted we eat a lot when together, I have now regained over a fifth of the 50 lbs. I had lost to this point :( . Oh, well, I'll loose it again...

Not that I don't enjoy a good, Disney sit-down meal...

Arriving the 4th and leaving the 24th. I'll be in FtWilderness (I'm the one with the totally over the top "tent" site (You'll know it when you see it).

No Internet access. I may look into using wi-fi at one of the resort lobbies once or twice but No regular schedule. I know Zazu has my cell number (or knows where to find it in another group contact list). I don't want to give it out in a public forum but if you ask Zazu for it I'll be happy to help you walk off some of those extra oz's (and get rid of a few myself) wandering the parks.

No meal meets for me. I'm a hamburger kind of guy. If it's "good for you" I likely won't want it. :D: And I'm not much of a drinker of spirits. One shot of Goldshlager a year is plenty (but try to take away my 2 ltr of MtDew and you will have a real fight on your hands). :D:

I'm definately interrested in meeting anyone in WDW (Guest or CM but no overt SGs please). If any of you want to get a look at me first, look at the Splash Mt photos I posted earlier. In the wide log I am the guy asleep in the front row. The beard is much greyer and the middle has expanded a notch or two, but the park touring attire remains.

I do have a few days either side of the 13th that are fully scheduled for a meet of another group, but otherwise my schedule is generally flexable.

I'm going to have to call Carlos and see if I can get a day of driving the bus at FtW. You are welcome to come along. We'll have fun.

Whaddaya say we get a big group together to do an SGT ToT pic? We'll at least need enough to fill the front row.
