Growing up Baptist (and this is probably true in many other denominations), PK=Preacher's Kid and MK=Missionary's Kid.

Sometimes these abbrevations were used as descriptions. But sometimes they were used as explanations.

Yep true for Methodists too. My cousins are PKs. I wouldn't want to trade places with them for the world. BTW I attend a Baptist church..

Okay, I'm not, but there seems to be a lot of Christians here so I was wondering: has anyone read "Lamb: The Gospel According to Jesus' Childhood Pal, Biff"? (Might've gotten the title slightly wrong, but I'm sure it's close enough for anyone who's read it...) Jesus isn't exactly my thing, but I did enjoy that book. Whenever I hear somebody mention Baptists, I always think of John as a little boy dunking all of his friends in the swimming hole. That's cute comedy. :D:

Presbyterian! We fill the church from the back to the front, and where you find one Presbyterian, you'll find a fifth :D:

Why do you have to bring two Mormons with you when you go fishing? Because if you bring just one, he'll drink all your beer!

Grew up in a non-denominational church (even pastor of one for a while), but now attend a Baptist Church. My wife grew up Presbyterian. Do you know the unofficial (at least I think it's unofficial) motto of all three groups?

"When we meet, we eat!"

:cheesebu: :corn: :bigcake:

Oh, I was at a church conference once and the speaker said, "Different churches emphasize different parts of the Bible. You can usually tell what a church focuses on by picking up a pew Bible and seeing where it naturally falls open to.

In a Baptist church, it'll be Matthew 28, or some other baptism passage.

In a Methodist church it'll be a passage about salvation by grace.

In a Presbyterian church it'll be ... well, first you have to take the shrink-wrap off. :D:

My favorite Baptist joke: Two Catholics, two Jews, and two Baptists are shipwrecked on a small island. The Catholics band together and form Our Lady of the Island. The Jews start meeting under the name Temple Beth-El.

The Baptists split and form First Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church. :o: :D:

Everyone should read "Lamb" just for the explanation of why we associate rabbits with Easter. Awesome!
Catholic joke:
Three priests were complaining about bats in their belfrys and comparing humane ways to get rid of them.
First Priest: "Well, I had a company trap them and release them 30 miles away. Problem is, by the next night, they were back!"
Second Priest: "That's nothing, I trapped all my bats by hand, drove 50 miles away to release them and they were all back by the end of the week!"
Third Priest: "We only have bats two days a year, so they don't bother me."
First Priest: "How is that possible!?"
Third Priest: "I just baptized and confirmed them, and now I only see them at Christmas and Easter."

As to Bats in the belfrey. I have a brother-inlaw who is a church paster. They didn't have bats in the belfrey (as the church us small enough not to have much of one) but they did have a colony of bats summering in the church chimney. Thanks to my (frequent) lectures they knew that bats are harmless and very benefitial and just left them alone. But they cautioned the kids (who were the first to notice the "smoke" coming from the chimney at sundown) to keep quiet for a while. Then began a subtle information campaign with the neighbors so that by the time the colony was "discovered" the neighbors were more than happy to see the "new neighbors". :D:
