That's what they tell you when you take a tour, but you know what a bunch of lying little patriots they are! :)

It has been years since I drove in Boston. I was there before and during the big dig. Boston had a habit of building bottlenecks into their highway system. The main road in, out and through Boston was, I believe I-91 (could be 93) and it was an elevated road that consistently went from 4 lanes to 3 lanes to 2 lanes all with very little warning. If you wanted to maintain any degree of steady speed the secret was to get in the far left lane and stay there until you reached Canada or Rhode Island. :D:

Now that it is all underground you couldn't force me there at gunpoint. I can't think of anything worse then being in a multi-car accident in a tunnel with no way out. No sir, I don't like Boston that much.

No idea what that means, but it intrigues me.

I was Caracas, Venezuela for a week teaching a class to IBMers. Got there on Sunday with the area manager and decided to go out for dinner. We finished dinner after sundown and, while driving back to the hotel, stopped at a few red lights. Everyone else were blowing through the lights without stopping.

We asked the students the next day what the deal was. We were told if you stop at a light you're very likely to get held up. Okay!

By the end of the week we were blowing through lights, going the wrong way on one way streets, it was great.

Over the years I traveled to a lot of different countries. One thing I learned was that south of the US, traffic laws, lights, and signs are, at best, recommendations.

When Mom and I were in York, PA for 3 years, it would amaze you how bad the drivers are. Firstly, you pick up a phone book here in CA and turn to the section on driving schools, there's at least four pages of them, mostly with display ads. There, when I came in 1995, there was one driving school listed--just the name, addy and phone number. One time I walked past the address, and it looked like an ordinary brick house--no signage to show it was a driving school or anything. When I left in 1998, there were three more schools listed, but no display ads. Out there, people generally learn to drive from their parents, who learned from their parents, all the way back to the days of the Model T Ford and the horse and buggy.

Mom got into at least two-three accidents while we were there. With one of them, Mom asked the woman who hit her if she'd seen the the sign for the turn lane, and the woman, very surprised, said "WHAT????" What finally finished the car was after my grandpa died, we were driving in rain to my Uncle Sonny's house, and my stupid cousin Renee was with us with her kids. All of a sudden, as she's talking with mom, she wanted to stop at a McDonald's to get the kids something to eat--despite the fact we were to have dinner with Sonny and Aunt Ruth--and she suddenly said "Turn there!"
Mom cut to the left, and an elderly couple in a car who which was coming from the opposite direction slammed into us. My neck and back hurt for weeks. I was so angry that the accident occurred and at Renee for causing it I refused to get in the ambulance to be checked out. My Aunt Sis was driving behind us and saw the whole thing and called 911. I think Sonny came out and got us, I'm not sure it's been so long, but Mom said she couldn't find me, and it wasn't until she got to Sonny's she found me.

Even crazier was when that big blizzard hit, Jan. 1996. People would drive, slide on the ice, and crash. Car repair shops were booked solid until May.

The Wong Driving School is located in San Francisco.

Excuse me, but how did refusing hospital care help you? You stated you suffered in pain for weeks. The absolute worst drivers I've ever seen have been in Philly PA. Philly is not a "Brotherly Love" city at all!! Philly makes San Francisco drivers saints.

One of the things that puzzles me is that when I got my Drivers License, no drivers education was required. Now it is mandatory in most, if not all, states. Yet, it seems that drivers are worse now then before they had the courses.

I find that most drivers are painfully ignorant about defensive driving. I taught defensive driving for the bus company I worked for. I was amazed at how few people could correctly answer even the most basic questions concerning DD. Today's emphasis appears to be more directed toward "right of way" issues then how to avoid being run into in spite of right of way. Basic stuff.

MS, I am totally AMAZED that people want to refuse those handsome and competent young men/ladies in the ambulance's care
Instead they come to our Urgent Care crying in pain. We can Xray them but if they are seriously injured they will be sent to hospital anyway. One young person crashed and his friends brought him to our clinic from 2 hours away with an obvious brain injury
