Re: DL Mean & Vicious guests this trip
WOW! Some very strong opinions on that second link. Interesting to read tho.
Side note on the Measles vaccine. When my older DD was about 7-8 they decided that the vaccine given in the past was not strong enuf and you had to get a second one if you were under a certain age (like 30 or something) I was in that category and had to sign a bizillion papers stating that I refused the 2nd dose. ( I was around 26 at the time) I still dont think the doctor believed me as to why I refused it..........
I was told when I was younger that I am a carrier of the measles. My best friend had them( she went to a different school) , my whole elementary school had them, ( I was the only one in my class of 20 kids not to get them) , my MOTHER caught them (for the 2nd time) from my BF. I will probably never get them but can pass them on to others. Hence the refusal of a 2nd shot.

Oh Disneymom, you're so sweet to clarify tyvm *hug* it's all cool I understood what you meant and I am really sorry that for whatever reason you have to cope with autism :( I did a lot of research during high school about autism because I was thinking of working with autistic kids (they knew so much less then than they know now and they still don't know much!) and I truly hope that they not only find the cause so that they can keep it from happening to more kids but that they find a treatment that is effective or better still an outright cure! *hug*
I posted more in response to the eye roll emoticon about some parents not vaccinating but that was not your post- forgive me my eyes are acting up on me so I didn't go back and read whose post it was- apologies to that poster.
Also Susi I just scanned your post will have to go back and read later in depth it wasn't the infection that made me sickest that was only one shot experience- it was the later MMR vaccineitself that almost killed me when I was four.
I was vaccinated in the mid 70's in a pediatrician's office- upscale area we lived in at the time- too- my mother said later that she wonders if the family that was in there before us (which had several small children) hadn't touched everything because the tongue depressers and cotton balls were all over and everything. Now if it had been me- that being the case i'd have insisted they show me the clean needle coming from the supply cabinate before they stuck it into MY kid but that's just me.
This was long before the 80's when everything started being sealed and then thrown away.
I had my shots- yet I've had german measles twice, regular measles once (this all after the vaccine) and chicken pox twice. So obviously my immune system doesn't work like everyone elses.
My mother had mumps when she was in her second trimester with me- so maybe that's why. . .
Anyhoo.
Off to rest my eyes today- they're giving me fits!

Re: DL Mean & Vicious guests this trip
This stuff IS interesting. I remember getting shots in the late 50's, early 60's when I was growing up, and later remember having the measles. I don't recall if anyone had adverse effects from shots, but then again I was a kid, and you don't usualy pay attention to those sort of things.
I do remember that when I went into the navy, they would give us various shot via the "gun" sometimes one in each arm, at the same time. and spaced them out about once a week. Some guys got very sick, but most of us didn't.
Later when I took my current job, we got the shots for hepatitus series, in case we came in contact with "someone" that might be infected. (plus the influenza shots every year)
I gues what the medical researchers need to do is find out what is different from the 60' till now wehn it comes to shots!
I know when my kids were growing up we didn't think twice about getting the shots, in fact, you had to have it current before the school year started!

It does sound like the kids before you got into everything and that is why the needle or the syringe was dirty. That plain sucks. That is why we have sterile situations today. Everyone is different, so who knows why someone gets the diseases after vaccination and why some don't. They need to keep on researching. There is so much still to learn about the human body. That is why I am so fascinated in disease processes (Pathology) and how to eradicate some of them. The CDC is hard at work here in the Fort Collins office on the West Nile Virus. They do a lot of arthropod borne diseases there. As a tech, I would get to go out and collect mosquitos! Oh joy! I don't know if I would want to do that.February wrote:Oh Disneymom, you're so sweet to clarify tyvm *hug* it's all cool I understood what you meant and I am really sorry that for whatever reason you have to cope with autism :( I did a lot of research during high school about autism because I was thinking of working with autistic kids (they knew so much less then than they know now and they still don't know much!) and I truly hope that they not only find the cause so that they can keep it from happening to more kids but that they find a treatment that is effective or better still an outright cure! *hug*

Good idea.Princess Susi wrote:Okay, so I will start a new thread to share the SG stories and photos of the birthday trip.
Yes it is. All you have to do is go to the Breakroom and start a new thread called "The Interesting Discussion Thread".So Polar, Zazu, IS it possible to rename this thread "The Interesting Discussion thread" AND move it to The Break Room. PLEASE!!!!!!!
It's easy, and something I recommend to all of you when a thread diverges from its original topic.

A discussion is fluid. Thus a discussion can never be off topic since the current discussion is just the most recent topic being touched upon. But a subject line (or title) CAN be off topic as it may no longer reflect the current topic being discussed. ;) :D:

What is this "on topic" of which you speak? I am not from your world, your human ways are strange and scary to me!
(I remember when I first got here I was so scared when I accidentily took a topic off course- and the Mods laughed and said I'd do just fine here I guess they were right LOL) That's one of my favorite things about this place. You learn such interesting stuff about other people because folks don't yell at me if I go OT in your thread and I'm happy to see any thread I start go where the posts take it! :)

Re: DL Mean & Vicious guests this trip
I'm just very grateful to the admins and mods here -- and all posters, really -- that they don't care that we go OT. I've seen too many good discussions and even whole boards ruined for me when they get hijacked by the "this is OT/no it's not" war.
