Crap...alll this shot talk reminds me I have to go get Meghyn's done soon. Some stupid one they just added a year ago for younger ones but they need it for school registration (even cyberschool since it is state funded) and she is behind on it since they decided they "need" this one all of a sudden

There are a large number of people that refuse to get their kids vaccinated for fear that the shots cause autism .

Sad to say, that is not a joke.

It is true that many people have reported sudden severe changes in their child's behavior immediately following immunizations, and then the child was subsequently diagnosed...this led to the theory that the vaccines (specifically the MERCURY in the vaccines) caused the Autism. Mercury is a known neurotoxin. Since mercury- containing thimerosal has been removed from vaccines, however, there HAS NOT been a decline in the rates of Autism.
I never felt that the vaccinations caused my son's autism, and another current theory is that there is some sort of genetic component that gets activated by
an outside force such as a virus or toxin. I was severely ill and stressed during my pregnancy(a theory for some), as well as had labor induced (another theory) had a c-section, my son and I have different Rh factors (another theory)yada yada.
No history in my family, but lots of OTHER diagnoses

Well I got a severe infection from a dirty needle with one of my first series of shots and then was deathly ill after my MMR for pre-school as a child- seizures, sick for months- and my health was shot to hell after that and never recovered.

I'm one of those 'crazy' non-vaccinating parents- thankfully I live in a state where we still have the right to choose. Otherwise I would've had to move when my kid was born.

Bru, I hope that my citing that there has not been a decrease in autism due to the removal of thimerosol in vaccines did not make anyone think that I think that there is not a problem with some kids and vaccines- Your illness is cause to think that there is. I think I was just trying to show that some kids did have some sort of reaction after vaccinations, but the vaccination alone may not be the only reason a child developes Autism. I believe that there are many potential causes- but no one has figured out definitely. I don't think that parents are "crazy" to not vaccinate, but we do not want to go back to the days of disease before the vaccinations. Our government needs to devote much more time and money to wipe out the causes of autism, but it doesn't seem to be a priority yet. Maybe the rate will have to go to 1/50 kids for them to prioritize Autism. :mad:

It has reached about 1 in 100 now, as I have seen on the news recently. That is far too many. 1 is far too many. Autism is on the rise. SOMETHING is causing it and they need to find it. Something in the food we eat, the drugs we take, the chemicals we use to clean our homes or some source out there. Something is causing this genetic change. I pray that we find a cause and the CURE very soon for this as the stats are only going to rise. :(

Bru, I am sorry you experienced a dirty needle and have had problems since. That is the exception rather than the rule, I would think. Why they would not use a clean needle is beyond me. If I may ask what year did you get your vaccinations and what state? Just curious. As a 54 year old, I remember getting the sugar cubes of polio vaccine in the late 1950's and early 1960's.

I also had the measles (Boy, do I remember that!!!!) and my mom tells me the Mumps (funny word, I always giggle when I say it, it is just a funny sounding word! MUMPS!!!!:p :) as a child. I don't remember Chickenpox, but my mom tells me I had it. I don't think I ever had the German Measles.

I too believe in vaccinations, if only to wipe out those diseases that we have limited in this day and age due to the vaccines. We cannot go back to a time where these childhood diseases run rampant and spread like wildfire. That would be a death sentence for many in our society.

The fifties are a great example of a vaccine changing the history of mankind. If not for the polio vaccine, we would have far more people that contracted that disease. And where would we be if they had not found a vaccine for Smallpox?

Medicine can take us to good health we never knew possible. They are now saving more people with Breast and Prostate cancer than ever before. We have as a society paid with our taxes and donations to eradicate even more diseases in our lifetime.

But one has to have blinders on to believe that medicine does no harm either. Drugs that keep you dependent, dirty needles causing infection (as in Bru's case), and surgeries gone wrong where they take the wrong leg, misdiagnosis. We have all read about these medical tragedies.

But I do believe that most Doctors try to follow the first rule of medicine, "First do no harm" That is the Veterinarians creed too. All medical people should be following this saying to the teeth!

That said, in some states people still have the right to make their own decisions about whether to vaccinate or not. Whether we will find that this is a good thing or not, only time will tell. When the young ones who have not been vaccinated grow older, maybe we will be able to start to tell if anything has come from being vaccinated or not. We have no idea...yet.

Perhaps natural immunity gets stronger and comes from the mother as we find that babies of most mammals get their antibodies the natural passive route from the mother through nursing. Perhaps if a child has breast fed from a mother who HAD all their vaccines, they can benefit from it. This would apply to younger mothers who had vaccines available to them when they were discovered. Not some of us ancients who now have natural active immunity by having contracted the disease. Just a thought. The researchers still don't know everything about it.

To me looking at a cure for autism is sort of like looking at the cause of larger breasts and earlier onset of menses in young girls. There have been validated reports that due to the excessive amounts of hormones in the meat and eggs we eat, that this IS cause for young girls to mature at a much earlier age.

I think we need to look at the things that all Autistics have in common. Not all people who were vaccinated have Autism. There is a *thing* out there, somewhere that is causing this genetic change, and like finding that hormones do in fact cause early maturation in females, we CAN find the *thing* that is causing Autism. I believe that with all my heart.

I would like to see some reports on whether the states that allow for people to NOT vaccinate have higher incidents or not of the diseases being vaccinated for. If not, then where is the harm in not vaccinating? And do all people who have kids in poor urban areas who cannot afford it, vaccinate? I doubt it. Maybe that is why we have seen a recent spate of Mumps (that word again) in recent weeks. The non vaccination of kids anywhere.... Who knows?

I think I am going to look for those reports on the lack of vaccines and it's correlation to a higher incidence of the diseases. I may not find one....I have NEVER heard anything about that on the news or through medical reports anywhere. Interesting thought....

I found this Wiki entry, but as we know Wiki can be written by anyone. It is interesting when I did a search for Vaccinations and the rise of disease in the unvaccinated, what came up most, were many sites and articles PRO NON-Vaccination. I am searching to see if there is any correlation of the rise of disease and not vaccinating. None I have seen so far. I will keep looking. Disneymom, direct me to some medical sites that have stats on vaccinations. Do you know of any?

I shouda been a Pathologist working for the CDC!!! I can still apply as a Vet Tech. They use them everyday in their studies to take care of the lab animals.

Also NON-vaccination and the rise of the diseases we are vaccinating for. I was curious if any states that currently do not require vaccinations have seen a rise in those childhood diseases. I don't know, could be, possibly not. The recent Mumps outbreak has me questioning whether or not an unvaccinated person started the spread through college campuses and affected other unvaccinated individuals. Not all got it. But even some vacccinated students contracted it. Fewer than the unvaccinated but still some did get it.

Okay, so I will start a new thread to share the SG stories and photos of the birthday trip. It has fallen so far off track that it can just continue as a interesting discussion thread.

Can we change the name to "Interesting discussions about anything and everything?" THAT is what it has become. So OT now that my SG stories and pic would get lost in all the other discussions about disease and airplanes and other topics that have been covered in 129 posts. Also buried in there is my link to the Club 33 photo album. I will repost it in my new thread of SG stories and pics.

So Polar, Zazu, IS it possible to rename this thread "The Interesting Discussion thread" AND move it to The Break Room. PLEASE!!!!!!!
