Susi, Your beautiful pictures of Orion made me laugh and cry at the same time....he was truly LOVED! Once again, it has only been a short time since his passing, and no one else can tell how long it will take for these feelings to
get less intense. You certainly know how to celebrate his memory, and I do believe that someday you will all reunite. Our best to you at this rough time.

Re: How to get through the Grief....
We had to put Emily down Monday night. It was one of the hardest decisions that we had to make. We still don't know what she had. After the last procedure to drain the fluid from around her heart, the tests came back negative for cancer. She made it long enough from my youngest daughter (Emily was Bonnie's dog) to see her. In fact , I believe that Emily knew Bonnie was coming and wanted to say goodbye. After Bonnie left, you could tell that Emily had lost the will to live.
She had stopped eating, and just laid down all day. I was able to get her meds into her on Monday morning but when Lisa came home, Emily was barely breathing, she was cold, coughing, drooling and shaking. When we talked to the vet, he said not to expect her to come back. When he saw her (this was a different Dr. our regular vet was off Monday) his first question was "How long has she had cancer?"
We decided to get her cremated, picked out a very nice box and it will have an engraved plaque on it. Bonnie is getting Emily's collar.
Sunny has been acting funny, I'm sure that she also knew. Who said dogs are not smart.

Aw, Cranbiz...I am so sorry...You know I know what it feels like, anyone who has lost a furry friend or *child* knows that abject desolation...You have come to the right thread. When you feel up to it, post some pics of Emily. It helped me to post pics of Orion and helped to see them here and share them with you all.
Hard to say what it was. If the test was neg for cancer, then it sounds more like congestive heart failure. The fluid around the heart in the pericardial sac would point to that. And that can be age related or disease related...hard to say.
She was and is very loved and will always be with you. I believe that. There is a very good site to go to called http://www.rainbowbridge.com People post stories there about their beloved furry friends and it can be a cathartic place to go.
Hugs to you and your family Cranbiz...I am thinking of you with love and kindness. May you be warmed by the fact that Emily had a great life with you and you gave her all she needed. True Unconditional Love...That is what these beautiful and gentle creatures teach us. And what they give us...
I hope you are finding some peace today, knowing she is not ill anymore and that you will see her again in the future, across the Rainbow Bridge where you all will be reunited in the forever love that you share! :lovestruc
Hugs

Yikes, Cranbiz, I just saw this post. Very sorry.
My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Sorry for your loss, it never gets easy. One of the downsides of being a pet owner.
