Generally, they wouldn't. The Company doesn't normally issue any type of comment on these sorts of issues. And as we seem to be consistantly reminded, Company Honours and Awards do not constitute a promise of continued employment or a waiver of our "At-Will" employment status .

I doubt that the Company would go all the way towards termination, particularly since I'm sure Ernie and the Security Union would fight it all the way to arbitration.

Sadly, there are "other" ways to acheive the same result that couldn't be challenged :( .

Hopefully, it all works out. Some sort of happy compromise has got to be possible.
