As a former resident of the Peninsula, you can call San Francisco anything you like including Sanny Franny and Where Robin Williams Lives. ;)

Thanks for the heads up! :) Although, I will probably go with Hobie's suggestion of "where Robin Williams lives". lol

And, yes, the last couple years have been beyond stressful, so I am overdue for a vacation. And when we do Disney, we actually do relax and have a great time. Yes, I walk more miles in one day down there than I walk in a month up here, but we have a great time together as a family (no running for sports!!!) and just take it easy. We let the kids decide which ride to go on next or where in the parks they want to eat....I think it just makes it more enjoyable for them to kinda "steer" our time there.

I made that mistake once. Once.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

It's not just a matter of taste.

In 1872, our beloved Norton I, Emperor of the United States, issued this edict:

"Whoever after due and proper warning shall be heard to utter the abominable word "Frisco", which has no linguistic or other warrant, shall be deemed guilty of a High Misdemeanor, and shall pay into the Imperial Treasury as penalty the sum of twenty-five dollars."

Would that be Christopher Moores' Emporer as imortalized in A Dirty Job, Bloodsucking Fiends et al ?

Cool post Amphi! :) Heck, one can't even park in The City for $25.00. What a deal back then. ;) I was a transplant to The City who never ever learned to like the charm, but I did learn to respect the name. Do it or die.

Moore's character is based on Emperor Norton I, who reigned from 1859 until his death in 1880.

He also issued this edict:

"WHEREAS, we issued our decree ordering the citizens of San Francisco and Oakland to appropriate funds for the survey of a suspension bridge from Oakland Point via Goat Island; also for a tunnel; and to ascertain which is the best project; and whereas the said citizens have hitherto neglected to notice our said decree; and whereas we are determined our authority shall be fully respected; now, therefore, we do hereby command the arrest by the army of both the Boards of City Fathers if they persist in neglecting our decrees.

Given under our royal hand and seal at San Francisco, this 17th day of September, 1872"

The bridge he ordered was built in 1933. BART, the light rail system, goes through a tunnel under the bay. Though most people call it the Bay Bridge, its proper name should be the Emperor Norton Bridge.

I just looked him up on wikipedia. Very colorful character. And definitely the inspiration for Moores character. The speech pattern in his decrees is beautifully represented in Moores books.
