Has there been any news from the Micronesian islands? Many of those atolls are so low that a 4' surge would roll right over them. Ive been searching for news, to no avail.

Everything seems to be good here. Anyone that's in a low lying area should have headed to the hills with enough water for a few days. The last time we had a tsunami alert the poor tourists were stuck on the hillside with nothing but the shade of their cars. My wife and a friend were delivering bottled water with a golf cart.

Japan got hammered badly. I'm sure the Red Cross will be asking for donations soon. Send a few bucks if you can.

Go over to http://www.usgs.gov , click on earthquakes, and look at the list of fore and aftershocks for Japan in the past week. Can you imagine a 7.2 foreshock? Those people must be freaked! I just posted my blog for the month on disaster preparedness for pets on the basis of this. Lfolks, there are faults here in California that haven't moved in ages--now is the time to get emergency survival kits put together--for you and your pets, if any. There's no shortage of info on the subject--heck, even The Weather Channel site has information on pets and disasters.

Edited to add: I just noticed I got my picture of my late kitty Tripod as my new signature picture in place of the old "Ruby Princess" Meez I used to have. I just wish the text I added under the photo on Flickr came with it, though. Thanks so very much to those who made it possible.

The one that really gets me, as someone who operates all sorts of vehicles, is the fact that four trains disappeared, and three of them are still just... missing.

Thoughts and prayers with the people of Japan.

On the train that has been found, everyone aboard was killed. The pictures are incredible and awful.

Let's hope the other three trains, which from what I can find may or may not actually be missing, are either not, or not this bad. At the same time, if a train is not where it should be, on the tracks... :(

The good news, though, is that I can't really find much about the other trains that were reported, so perhaps they were instances of the story being exaggerated.

In the link above, I have seen reports that everyone aboard was killed, and I have seen reports that people survived. Basic rule of thumb would be that every side story should be taken with some salt.
