The media have been pushing the story that the airport is likely only to get used by the military as a staging airport for the cf-18s, so that is much less likely to interest the troublemakers. It will be much harder for them to blend in with the locals in Huntsville or North Bay. My wife is from North Bay, and even she can't blend in there any more!jerlove wrote:Del I feel for you. I am up close to Huntsville so I will be experiencing some of the same with the G8 at Deerhurst. However it sounds like since they annouced the G20 most of the protesters have decided to not make the trip up HWY 400/11 to screw with my little part of Muskoka.
I do some work with the airport authority in North Bay and they are expecting some of the delegates to land there but it is not public knowledge so we should not see too much trouble.
At least it was not public knowledge until now.![]()
The police should booby trap them with flash bang grenades.delsdad wrote:They have been finding caches of bricks and rocks hidden near the Zone, to be used against the police I would assume.

I'm Gay and I can't say that I understand it very well, lol.delsdad wrote:Todays was a group of the disabled and some sort of gay rights group. they demanded that the nations of the G20 stay out of gay and disabled rights issues! I just don't understand this ! They demonstrated by taking over a major intersection and holding some sort of "Hug In" ??
And there's even been reported SGs, such as this woman apparently blowing up over the fact that all of the newspaper boxes in her neighbourhood have been taken away (as seen in yesterday's Toronto Sun):G20 Summit: Security Measures Causes Some Citizens Anguish
The numerous security measures undertaken as part of the upcoming G20 summit in Toronto seem to be causing great anguish to many Canadians. A group of Ontarian psychologists attribute this to the unusual presence of such a large police presence, which is causing anxiety among many residents.
This is notably the case for Jean-Pierre Kalenda. A refugee who fled his native Democratic Republic of the Congo arrived in Canada a year and a half ago. He still carries fresh memories of the intimidation and extortion that marked the law enforcement officials in his country of origin.
"I still have a certain fear...I still sometimes think that the police officers are there to hurt people and do bad things. Like Mr. Kalenda, many recent immigrants have a vastly different perception of law enforcement than native-born Canadians.
"It's not a simple cognitive or rational reaction," explains Catherine Desjardins, a therapist with the Centre francophone de Toronto. "I can here a gunshot go off and it could remind me psychologically of a gunshot I heard five years ago, and generate the same kind of fear as then".
In response to the pressures of the G20 Summit, the Centre francophone de Toronto has set up a hotline for those so afflicted. The first of it's kind, "it will allow people to speak with a mental health professional and be reassured in the wake of these symptons," says Ms. Desjardins.
Mr. Kalenda likes the initiative. However, he still will be staying far away from the G20 Summit protests. "I'm not going to work. Heck, even if I had a romantic meeting scheduled, I'd stay away."
