The next week is going to suck !

A place to be entertained. Videos, jokes, games, and more.

At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.

Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

Del I feel for you. I am up close to Huntsville so I will be experiencing some of the same with the G8 at Deerhurst. However it sounds like since they annouced the G20 most of the protesters have decided to not make the trip up HWY 400/11 to screw with my little part of Muskoka.

I do some work with the airport authority in North Bay and they are expecting some of the delegates to land there but it is not public knowledge so we should not see too much trouble.

At least it was not public knowledge until now.

The media have been pushing the story that the airport is likely only to get used by the military as a staging airport for the cf-18s, so that is much less likely to interest the troublemakers. It will be much harder for them to blend in with the locals in Huntsville or North Bay. My wife is from North Bay, and even she can't blend in there any more!

The protests started yesterday. A small march that began as some sort of animal rights demonstration, moved on to take over and loot a gas station, then up to the childrens aid society to demand and audience with the director ?? It seems that the cause is whatever beef you can come up with and the masses will follow along. Only one arrest, no violence.

Todays was a group of the disabled and some sort of gay rights group. they demanded that the nations of the G20 stay out of gay and disabled rights issues! I just don't understand this ! They demonstrated by taking over a major intersection and holding some sort of "Hug In" ??

I went for a walk today down to the "zone". All the fences are in place. Streets are deserted. At 11 am it was like early on a Sunday morning. Most of the office towers are shut down for the week. The banks have removed much of their signage. Lots of contractors putting up plastic film over windows to contain the broken glass. lots of city works trucks full of barricades just sitting on standby, waiting to be told where to put them up. You can feel the apprehension in the air. Its like waiting on a hurricane, but does not have the community spirit that went with preparing for the hurricane. There were a few buses of tourists at city hall, but far less than last week.

Lots of police riding around on bikes and horses. Several hotels are bursting with police. Police inside the entrances of all the malls. They have been finding caches of bricks and rocks hidden near the Zone, to be used against the police I would assume.

Looking forward to it all being over on Sunday.

I heard about that, something about female rights and the G20 and Prime Minister Harper having a big head....? I'm Gay and I can't say that I understand it very well, lol.

But it's interesting the effect that this whole thing is having on people. I found an article that says many Torontonians are suffering psychological anguish because of the whole thing (I couldn't find an English-Language version, and Google isn't working properly, so I've attached a translation).

Radio-Canada Ontario-Outaouais: Sommet de G20: La sécurité angoisse certains citoyens
G20 Summit: Security Measures Causes Some Citizens Anguish

The numerous security measures undertaken as part of the upcoming G20 summit in Toronto seem to be causing great anguish to many Canadians. A group of Ontarian psychologists attribute this to the unusual presence of such a large police presence, which is causing anxiety among many residents.

This is notably the case for Jean-Pierre Kalenda. A refugee who fled his native Democratic Republic of the Congo arrived in Canada a year and a half ago. He still carries fresh memories of the intimidation and extortion that marked the law enforcement officials in his country of origin.

"I still have a certain fear...I still sometimes think that the police officers are there to hurt people and do bad things. Like Mr. Kalenda, many recent immigrants have a vastly different perception of law enforcement than native-born Canadians.

"It's not a simple cognitive or rational reaction," explains Catherine Desjardins, a therapist with the Centre francophone de Toronto. "I can here a gunshot go off and it could remind me psychologically of a gunshot I heard five years ago, and generate the same kind of fear as then".

In response to the pressures of the G20 Summit, the Centre francophone de Toronto has set up a hotline for those so afflicted. The first of it's kind, "it will allow people to speak with a mental health professional and be reassured in the wake of these symptons," says Ms. Desjardins.

Mr. Kalenda likes the initiative. However, he still will be staying far away from the G20 Summit protests. "I'm not going to work. Heck, even if I had a romantic meeting scheduled, I'd stay away."
And there's even been reported SGs, such as this woman apparently blowing up over the fact that all of the newspaper boxes in her neighbourhood have been taken away (as seen in yesterday's Toronto Sun):

Here's hoping you all make it through in one piece.
