The SG's would probably ask him to take their picture.

They used to have little white stick thingies, but most of them had been broken off over the years.

This would be the truly enlightened response to what is obviously a great guest satisfier -- and a response with a positive impact on revenue as well. After all, laying down a bit of pavement and a static sign would surely be less costly than maintaining those electric signs (as the SGs drive over them looking for a spot).

Let's all put that idea in the hopper and maybe the bean counters will suddenly get an inspiration unrelated to any front line CM suggestion!

Back in Oct. 2009, we did see signs on the freeways saying that too. It is the holidays, the driver's here are clueless.

If you went to the Disney Studios, they have a sign that reads: It came from the cafeteria. I have seen people take pictures of that sign.

The funny thing is that the Sheriff cars usually hide not far from the entrances. Apparently they don't really care.
Don't you love that? This is real safety issue but they choose the less work and just sit in the car and wait for a speeder. Which most likely is a cast member late to work and yet that's the real problem to them. Instead of sitting on their behind they should be in that corner making sure that nobody parks there. The cops that go around Disney drive me insane, I can think of 10 places they should be watching, yet they choose the lesser work. I shouldn't be surprise, yet I always am.

You need to remember that the Sheriffs have been hired by Disney and enforce what they've been asked to.

WDW was an almost cop-free zone until one day Lee Cockerel had late CMs pass him on a curve on Vista Blvd -- one going across the double line and the other passing on the grass to his right at the same time!

He figured, "I don't have to put up with this, I'm the vice president!" and called in the sheriffs. They've been issuing over 1000 citations/month for speeding and reckless driving, with 97% of them going to CMs.

Now if one of those SGs should get hit while having his photo taken, the sheriffs might just get reassigned, but until then....

There should be a rest stop before heading into the parks. Have a sign saying you are here and have multiple warning signs. Maybe a few photo boths with the sign in the back charging $5. :D:

What I find most interesting is that if you come in on Western Way, the signs to not stop are there of course, but then they have HUGE margins on either side giving plenty of room (and basically encouraging) to stop. Its almost like when they built Western Way they realized that they were going to have the signs up, and that people were going to ignore them anyways, so they gave the added space.

The Lee Cockeral story is kinda cool I suppose, but granted, most roads at WDW are public highways anyways, so OCSO could go there if they wanted to to enforce local highway ordinances ... then again, from what I know of Lee, I wouldn't put it past him. His son is kind of cool ... in that "I will wear sunglasses that do not ad-hear to the Disney look kind of way."

Umm, no ..sorry, but those are private roads except 429 until it becomes Western Way. This is another reason why GPS units usually get guests to a cast only area (blocked off) or to the wrong side of property. :p:

Oh and Western Way is built that way for easy expansion when people start discovering what a lovely shortcut it is from Turnpike South bound just North of our property.

Now, OCSO has its own sector just for WDW. Sector ==> precinct. So you have regular patrol units 24/7 and then the OT guys for special shifts that WDW areas hire them to work.

So let me ask you a question...In your home area, is/are there place(s) you say that your local PD needs to monitor but doesn't? Is your home area 47 square miles? Maybe they monitor that area, but you don't see them? Perhaps these are the same challenges for WDW based OCSO?

Oh and for Florida cast, Lee's concern was on Buena Vista coming from the Fort to the jug handle. It is a nasty little stretch of 40 MPH speed limit, 2 lane road. The accidents on that road are BAD...and often. This is since OCSO started patrols on our property. Before that, well you get the picture.

You think people are stupid in the parks/resorts, you gotta see them drive! This includes cast and locals using our property as a cut through to their homes. UGH We could have a 20 sheriff unit to just give tickets for no damned lights on driving on the road. And that would be just for guests coming out of MK parking.

Sorry, I am losing it...starting to hate the holidays. I am actually looking forward to the Marathon pain in the ass people. Yeah, that is not good at all.

Do yourself a favor...if not working NYE, then stay the hell home. It is safer. If you are coming to play and staying at a WDW resort, take Disney transportation. Your family will thank you...and you'll be there to hear them.
