I would so do this if I could be allowed to go home for a couple of weekends in October. Damn previous commitments.

You've mentioned loss prevention, if you have a guard card, you may want to look into some of the security companies that staff trade shows. They always seem to need folks willing to work the graveyard shifts which usually means sitting in a room babysitting gear while reading a book. Might not be a lot of pay, but it's a similar field and it's something.
