In order for something to be a sound, it needs a vibration, and a receiver. So, if the tree falls and there's nobody around to hear it, then no, it doesn't make a sound.

But the word nobody implies that there are no people there, there could still be animals around and they would be the receivers of the sound. Now, because there are usually animals in a forest I will have to go with it does make a sound, unless you can prove that no animals were there.
