Stupid Guest Tricks

I love that our country allows us to be vocal in our support AND criticism of our American Symbols and Government, but to interrupt the ceremony just showed that these little idiots were just rather clueless. I definitely think our veterans/ active duty need to have our respect (even if we don't think that we should currently be at war :( )

I DO remember that a High School teacher wouldn't let us out of our class during school fire drills until we had made sure the "Flag Got Out First" and thinking that in a real fire, she'd have a hard time holding back a group of
30 teenagers - she was about 70 at the time! :p:

Every time.
That story really makes me mad as well.

Teens (especially in a group) always think that they are a riot. But they aren't. They are just lame and annoying.

Flag Retreat Officer, Ernie, never mentioned the teen disruption. Wonder if he was even aware?Will ask him today. The efforts a few work so valiantly for will never be appreciated until Freedom is denied. Unbelievable!

turkeyham, I wish you were correct. This would be respectful & proper. CMs are no longer trained, nor told to stop during Flag Retreat. CMs do not have to stop & stand while our country's flag is retired before dusk. Standing until the folding of our flag is not mandatory. I wish this was policy. Many CMs will pause then walk away. Training CMs flag respect has not been proceedure for at least 6 or 7 yrs. Please post if I am wrong. This time I'd like to be wrong.

CMs shouldn't have to be trained to respect our flag, or at least the American CMs. One would hope that is something they were taught to do as a child and do without being told to do it.

I always stop and put my hand on my heart during the Pledge and especially during the National Anthem if I'm in Town Square somewhere during the Flag Retreat.

The only thing about CM's stopping their actions to salute the flag during the retreat are SG's bugging the crap out of them as to why they are not doing their job in catering to them and THEIR needs --- I can easily see Town Hall being filled with SG's howling about a lazy CM didn't want to trade pins because they had to stop for the flag ceremony.

When I was trained, ten years ago, we were instructed in flag protocol. Even if just walking across Town Square, when the music started, you stopped and saluted.

We did have a question raised about the safety implications for railroad workers on the Main Street station platform. This was officially resolved with a memo declaring that Engineers and Conductors could not hear the national anthem from the platform. We were thus not only relieved from having to salute, we were prohibited from doing so as we were in a safety role.

Makes sense if you're trying to keep SGs from jumping in front of an oncoming train (or not).

When I trained in Foods, I always made sure to mention when we went on Main Street for Day 1 (i.e. Getting to know Disneyland Park) that they should always stop and pay respect if they ever end up there during Flag Retreat. It wasn't procedure, but it seemed like a good thing to mention, and I could always tie it into a mini-lecture on Disney Heritage and whatnot, lol.

I will say that it said a lot about the nature of my New Hires. Those who didn't last long tended to be those who challenged the fact that their CANADIAN Trainer was telling them anything about AMERICAN traditions .

I know Ernie too. He is very nice guy. If you make him mad, that's a different story. He always does flag retreat. I believe he was in the military also. I forgot which branch. I want to say he was a Marine. :)

turkeyham, you most know Ernie extremely well outside of D L , thus I must have met you often. The Ernie I know is very self controlled as far as temper. I've really never seen him "mad." He simply does not become angry unless pushed to the max by SG who swear at him, & call him names as he defends D L CMs & property. Not too long ago he was kicked, scatched, & spat upon. He somehow still kept his calm, well, semi. He even told me last night; "I never get mad. Takes too much energy." Have you actually witnessed Ernie when mad? What's "a different story"? Just inquiring. Ernie is a proud Marine who served 22 yrs in the Corps. He left American soil twice to fight for our freedom. Ernie fought D L 15 yrs. to have a proper Retiring of The Colors Ceremony, as well as pay tribute to all veterans who are present during the ceremony, & many who have died in combat. I firmly believe Ernie must be honored by a Window On Main Street. If any of you would like to help with this project, plz pm me. Will be an uphill battle which won't happen soon, yet the more support for a window the better the chances will be. :)
