I still love going, but please don't hand me the BS line about caring about show quality. You don't, because if you did, I would not see these things when I visit as a guest.
That is like when I listen to radio (only in the car now). I am always picking apart the spiels between songs, the music segues, the *clock* where each component (song, commercial, Public Service Announcement, Live Mic break, etc...etc...) of the program fits in the hour. I cannot listen to radio anymore and enjoy it, unless it is background and I am not paying that close attention or it is talk radio and I listen for a different reasson, to get information and hear opinions. I have done most every job at a radio station except engineer and can pretty much predict programming these days. It's boring to me.

So I don't know now if I want to work at WDW. I don't know that I want my opinion of the magic to change. I READ about what happens backstage and how some things suck and how it is not all magic and Pixie Dust like everyone thinks, but it is not the same unless you are experiencing it. I am not sure if I want to be that hypercritical of the Parks when I go to enjoy them. And I am like that. I pick apart every sequence and bit on the radio, so it probably would happen on my days off in the Parks.

Maybe I should work elsewhere, like Sea World and save the magic for Disney :p: I would not mind working at Discovery Cove! I love that place. To work with the Dolphins and in the arena they work with them would be fabulous. I will have post some pics of our swim with the dolphins when we went there!

I'll work there! Or maybe the Pirates Dinner theatre! ;) Sure, now that is a good fit...NOT!

I would LOVE to do the Dolphin Interaction here at Sea World San Diego.....
I asked if the kids could do the "Polar Bear Interaction" but the staff at Sea World said, "Sorry, 'Charlie' doesn't interact with anybody!"  :p:

Were you to work Discovery Cove, I am sure we could come up with some good... trades...

I have to agree, you never look at Disneyland/World the same way after you've worked there.

You become more critical because you know that we as a company are capable of so much more. However, at the same time, you also become more understanding because you know all the hard work that goes into providing "legendary guest service", and you realize that CMs are people too, with real problems, and not just special friends of Mickey who live perfect lives with him inside the park.

I love my job and working for Disney, but there can be something to be said for keeping that sense of innocence (though if you're here, you're not that innocent anymore, lol  :p :)

Just on a side note, WDW doesn't hire people in to Guest Relations, from what I understand, it's a position you have to transfer into.

Okay, point taken. Hard to even pretend to be innocent here.

I have a real life with problems as well - but Mickey Mouse is one of my most best friends in the whole world. I adore him.

However, yes do have to see the underbelly of being a CM. It can be hard in some aspects, some of the magic may be sucked from you you will even feel like quitting when it gets really really rough. However, making that Magic for other people that has been made for you in the past is what makes it all worthwhile. I thought that I'd be "lost of innocence" when I started working, but I soon found out that love making the magic more than receiving it.

That is the mark of a true Cast Member. I spent 15 minutes with some kids the other day making magic, and a manager had to come watch my post. Some trainees had taken it over for a bit, and I overran my time.

Manager didn't have a problem with having to cover for me. That's why I am at Disney World. If that is something you would love, then by all means, get your butt in here.

When I was hired to work in the stores back in '89, they were brand new, only a handful in existence and they flew someone out from California to do our training. We did a three day Traditions course.

I knew I'd found my 'tribe'.

At the 'casting call' they hired me on the spot- after four interviews within the span of an hour. They looked at me like I'd been pixie dusted into being LOL. A vergence in the Disney Force if you will. It's in my blood.

I was offered a transfer to the Studios right after they opened. I didn't take it because I was young and very sheltered and didn't know anybody to room with (and as you know you can't survive alone on minimum wage)

The course of my life would have been very different had I taken it- and I love where I am now so I can't complain. But among my proudest memories is being chosen to escort Mickey on opening day of our store.

Of the way my fellow cast behaved when I had to quit due to health issues (and a manager from hell). The assistant manager quit as soon as I announced I was leaving.

I will always be a CM in my heart and on my trips, it is my greatest fun to make magic for THEM whenever I can. I do pretty well at it.

Did I tell you guys the story about our experience with the lady, was her name Hildegard- who walks around on Main Street with the Mayor? It was cool but freaked me right out.

With all the millions of guests this woman sees- she insisted that she knew me. That we'd met before. She hugged me and said she "hadn't always been a redhead" I don't know if she meant she used to be another face character or what. But in any event, she said it was wonderful to see me again and that she hoped we would come back really soon.

I kept shaking my head trying to remember where in the World I'd met her before. But at least I was glad to know that I made a GOOD impression and she was glad to see me again LOL.

edited to add- I thought she was just doing a routine, part of the show, so I was joking yes we'd met, strolling the thoroughfare, ect, and she whispered in my ear, "no, sweetie, I know I know you. I know we've met before' and I looked at her and said, "But you meet so many people" and she replied "not only do I think we've met, but I'm CERTAIN of it' that was when she said she was glad we were back and hoped we'd come again soon.

That'll give you the warm fuzzies!!!

Felt the same way when our server at Liberty Tree saw us at our second ADR on our trip and went to the podium and snatched our card so he could have us in his section again.

I'm so glad I"m not a hated stupid guest LOL

:D

It's my goal to be a fun guest! And to make an impression that is not easily forgotten ;) I hate being forgotten!

OH! I almost forgot. My dream job, when I was offered a transfer to the studios, was that I wanted to be a 'female gangster" Management laughed and said that there would 'never be a female gangster' on the GMR.

First time we had a female gangster I almost fell out of the car.

I can still do the dialog. . ."Red lights, I hate red lights! Hey, Lady, watch this!" *bang* "No more red light! Hey youse guys, I'll see yas in choich!"

I could so have done that role. . .

I had a similar experience. It was a Rock N Rollercoaster. They had some sort of technical delay and Me, My wife and daughter were at the station just before the pre-show. While we were held up we were just chit-chatting with the guy for about 5 - 10 min, nothing special, then everything was working and we went on to the pre-show.

Next year, we were back, and I didn't notice at the time, but it was the same guy and he stopped us and said "Weren't you here about this time last year?" then it dawned on me, "yes, when the ride was held up for a bit."

Wow, good memory on that guy and thankfully I was remembered for being pleasant and not throwing a fit that the ride was held up a few minutes.
