Now THAT is a bigboys toy!!
I have flown a hovercraft many times. They are FUN to fly. If you are really good, try stopping one on a frozen pond.
When I figure out how to insert a pic, I'll post one here of my flying the Fire Dept's hovercraft.

You'll have to forgive me if I wonder why your fire department
had a hovercraft... not that I'm complaining about that fact...

C'mon Wallaby, everybody knows that works better on putting out fires that blowing it out like a candle...hence: giant fans! :D:
(correct me if I'm wrong, Cranbiz, but I'm assuming it was your S&R section's equipment...?)

In a town with many ponds, and cranberry bogs, a hovercraft is an excellent rescue tool. With a flyon/off trailer, you can launch from the street and not worry about terrain. They don't carry as much weight as a boat but are way faster to deploy and don't need open water to be effective. Try using your boat in a frozen pond to rescue a kid who went thru the middle of the pond where the ice was thinner.
Did I say before that it was fun to drive (fly)! :D:

I know they have one the next town over from where I live (and perhaps the city I live in has one, too). The border between the two towns is primarily a very long, narrow lake. When it's frozen solid, it's great for ice fishing and skating. When the ice is thin, though.......
And as was pointed out, it's faster to launch than your typical motor boat, and for its size is probably as fast or faster.

You don't need to. I've wanted one for years... even found a few companies that make kits.

All I know is I don't want them to be the next fad for kids destroying the sanity and peace and quiet. Look what I started, big boys and their big toys, mention one little thing like a hovercraft and they are off and running on that topic. LOL! Don't we ever stay on topic here at SGT? LOL! Not that I am complaining, I have posted my share of off topic posts, but it is funny how a thread goes everywhere. I LOVE it! It is like we are all distrac...Oh, look a flower.... :flower:
soooooze :)

One of my neighbors rents exotic cars and Segways. He also does Segway tours around Lahaina. They're pretty funny to watch. Kinda like a mother duck and her brood. He also does the Segway demo team everytime there's a parade in town.
