They were trying to sell me a vacation loan or some such clap for a trip to Orlando. To finally get her to understand I wasn't interested and to stop trying I had to tell her I had family down there that took care of those things.
Figures. I entered a contest at an event and got called asking to come in to an office for "a 60 minute presentation." We were promised a pair of baseball tickets and a $30 gift card to Olive Garden for our time. Sure enough, the "60 minute presentation" was an attempt to sell us a timeshare. I was skeptical of these people from the start because they kept emphasizing "We've been in business in this area since 1971", as if they were trying to overcompensate for something. Then when we told them we didn't want to commit $20,000 to a timeshare when we wanted to buy a house first, the guy tried to convince us that buying the timeshare would help us in buying a house, and that he'd been in the finance business for 15 years. I was not about to commit that kind of money to a company I had never heard of before on something that I don't really want to buy at this time because of one guy's commission-driven spin on our financial situation.
So we took our baseball tickets and Olive Garden gift cards and left. The tickets were for a game 4 months later against Tampa Bay, and were in a section where, if we had sat in the seats printed on the tickets, we would have been the only people within a 200 foot radius. As for the gift cards, well, come on, when was the last time any of you had dinner for two at Olive Garden for under $30? My wife ended up giving them to her brother to take his girlfriend to an "I'm sorry" dinner.
Now whenever someone tries to get us to enter contests on those machines, I tell them, "I'm not interested in buying a timeshare." Or I get the coupons the machines spit out and just enter my name as Joe Blow, and my phone number as 999-999-9999.

Recently on the National Geographic channel, I saw a show about predators in hiding waiting to pounce on prey that had separated from the herd. It showed timeshare salesmen hiding in kiosks along the beach pouncing on unwary tourists.
As the prey was dragged away, you could hear their plaintive cries. “When do I get my free gift?!?!”

Okay, next time I go by a timeshare sales "center", I'll have to do my Steve Irwin on them, especially if they're trying to sell someone. I'll even narrate!

Both of these are for colleges. You just have to put the number in google. Unless it is unlisted or a new number it will show up.
