It's raining!
Re: It's raining!
I was raining last night and yet again people ran in to buy ponchos and umbrellas only to have the rain stop about 20 minutes later. The first time is was barely sprinkling. Then, the rain started again but this time is was way heavy. So more people came in to buy ponchos and umbrellas. And once again, the rain stopped about 20 minutes later. :D: After that, the park was pretty empty.

Believe it or not some guests have absolutely tried this. :( Once the pancho is unfolded & wet I tell them "no refund," but will call a lead if they are angry. SG! SG! SG!DLRFantasmic!Dan wrote:Did they run back inside and demand a refund?? :D:

I got a similar question when working ODV in Epcot...
I thought Disney controlled everything here so turn off the rain.

Doh! Of course!!!! I've always wondered what the giant monstrosity of an arm was doing next to spaceship earth. Now I know. It holds the Epcot umbrella!
I'll bet the Epcot umbrella works much better than having everyone share one big hat like they do over a MGM...

Re: It's raining!
What always annoyed me was when people would be getting off something, say, small world, and when they see it's pouring, just stop dead in the exit. I've actually seen small world have to shut down in a rainstorm just because the exit ramp got so backed up, that there was no where left to put people on the dock! There would be CMs up at the top of the exit, BEGGING people to move, saying, "Just come over here, twenty feet, and there's shelter you can stand under!!" but the SG just stand there.
And these are the same people who will, after the rain, go stand in line for 2 hours to ride Splash.

I used to work in WDW, fantasyland. What always annoyed me was when people would be getting off something, say, small world, and when they see it's pouring, just stop dead in the exit. I've actually seen small world (which in WDW is COMPLETELY indoors) have to shut down in a rainstorm just because the exit ramp got so backed up, that there was no where left to put people on the dock! There would be CMs up at the top of the exit, BEGGING people to move, saying, "Just come over here, twenty feet, and there's shelter you can stand under!!" but the SG just stand there. They don't care about all the people they are trapping in the ride, all the people who have to wait even longer to ride... All they care about is, "I'm not getting wet!" Hello! It's summer in Orlando- you should have been more prepared!
And these are the same people who will, after the rain, go stand in line for 2 hours to ride Splash.

Re: It's raining!
Last night, it was sprinkling a little bit as I was in PI Location training, with the other trainee driving, I was getting out to greet. I stood in the doorway a second enjoying the water drops, when the other driver complained that I needed to get on board, and I responded that I was enjoying the rain.
The lady sitting behind him looked at me, laughed, and told me how it wasn't rain. I asked where she was from, and it was Portland, and even Beaverton, a suburb city. I am from Tigard. If you check the links, you'll see where she lives in one map, and where my parents live in the other. Yes, I know the maps have quite a few common features.
Casually covering my nametag, I decided it was time to mess with her. I asked her to give me the name of the street on which she lived. She named one I knew, and so I asked her to close her eyes and visualize the world around her house. I started naming things, generally at first, then getting more and more specific until I named the cross street. At that point she opened her eyes disbelieving what she was hearing, and I pulled my papers into my lap so she could see my nametag. Then, she laughed, partly out of relief, I think. I assured her I couldn't read her mind, and was just taking advantage of the opportunity of being from almost the same neighborhood and having had friends as a kid in hers.
Then, I decided an icebreaker was needed, so I started a conversation about the differences in the weather between Portland and here.
There are three things I love about the rain here: 1) It cools things down, 2) It's fairly short-lived, 3) It causes this mass exodus from the parks during which time I like to go in and go on the E-Ticket attractions over and over and over and over and over and analyze everything I can. I'm enough of a nut that I went on Rockin' Rollercoaster last Tuesday 8 times because there was no wait and I wanted to "study" the launch mechanism. Of course, the music makes that difficult, but still enjoyable :D:

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Re: It's raining!
One drop of rain in this area means major tie ups and people acting like idiots. They drive 80 on the freeway. The last time I drove fast in the rain was in a torrential down pour and the only thing I could see was a truck so I followed it. Trucks stop a lot slower so I figured I would take my chance but it was like a roller coaster ride, kind of fun.
I never had a problem in Disneyland with rain but the last time at WDW them idiots would shut down and hide from rain.
