Really not sure if this belongs here, but I'm headed to TDA on Tuesday and need some help: (BTW, I will be more than happy to move this thread if it is deemed necessary. ^_^)
So I posted awhile ago that I felt unappreciated at the DLR and part of the reason I went to Knott's was because I felt they appreciated everything I did for our guests and would recognize me for it.
Boy, was I wrong.
After over A YEAR of dedicated service with NO ATTENDANCE PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER (and any former CMs should recognize that this same situation at DLR (in Custodial at least) would result in my being ASKED to apply to be a Working Lead, if not being asked to become Full Time), I was told by Knott's supervision that I would NOT be promoted to a Shift Leader because (and I am NOT making this up) I requested 10 days off from the end of September to the beginning of October in 2010 and if I were a Ride Operator, they could give me this time off without a problem, but because I was interested in being a Shift Leader, they couldn't promote me until after my time-off request was over, to ensure they wouldn't promote me and I would call in sick and go on my vacation anyway.
Ironically, the request was for a Disney cruise in Florida next year.
I am posting to ask, dear anti-SG, CMs, and former CMs alike, where you think I would fit at the Disneyland Resort family. Like most people, I would LOVE to be an Attractions Hostess, but unlike most people, I have PLENTY of previous experience. I operated several ride types, from swings, a Frisbee ride, an upcharge ride, and "teacups" all the way to Knott's newest launch coaster. I am concerned, though VERY mildly, about my chances of encountering SGs, though I'm thinking this MAY be a risk I run in any department.
I'm thinking of avoiding GR altogether, but don't want to eliminate anything needlessly.
Any advice?

TDA will have you apply OL when you go in. You will be given the location they feel you will fit best & where the need is greatest. Avoiding SG? Only if you are backstage. Backstage roles include working with some SCMs. Don't think "stupid" can be avoided. Good Luck!

My friend worked at Knott's several years ago. He worked in foods. After 5 years he became a receiver. He did not get any vacation days either. He asked for them and did not get a thing.
My second friend who worked attractions back in 1988 she worked allot and got her 2 days off. When she quit was 3 weeks before her wedding.

Re: Best option for least SGs?
The last year I worked at Knott's scheduled days off were a sick joke. More than once I worked nearly two weeks straight without a day off, and I was usually called in to work on my day off. Worse, I'd be scheduled to work the train, but as soon as I got there, I would be told to work Camp Snoopy. Were it not for my incredible self-control, a lot of shift leaders would've gotten strangled. And they wondered why I developed the habit of rubbing my hands a lot. It was to keep from killing a shift leader--or an SG. Just wait, that place will collapse on itself.
There's this site called http://www.glassdoor.com , you join for free and you tell them, anonymously, what your job was, interview questions that might be helpful to someone else, what it was like to work there, pay, etc.. They also have a list of CEOs of different companies, and their approval ratings. Not surprisingly, the CEO of Cedar Fair has a very low approval rating, whereas the one for the Disney CEO is higher. Interesting and useful site; check it out.
