Wisdom

A place to be entertained. Videos, jokes, games, and more.

At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.

Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

Bono has done more for AIDS relief, third world debt relief and Africa than any other celebrity I can think of. Not only that but he's inspired a lot of others to do it too. Ever heard of Product Red?

And that's the thing. No one person can do it all- but you can do something and he's done something and that's better than nothing which is what most people on earth let alone people with as much power and influence as he has do.

I guess I've just sent a few too many blankets to orphanages in Africa to find this at all amusing.

Want to see pictures of the AIDS orphans clutching blankets cause they have nobody to hug them anymore? Cause I have them and will email them to anybody who needs to understand why I didn't laugh at this.

Sorry.

It'll pass. You know I'm usually not such a bitch.

This is just a really tender spot for me.

You know I love ya'll.

Absooolutely! Here's another story about Bono:

Bono was working on getting some funding for one of his Africa initiatives. In a meeting with a US Rep. Bono was told there was no way the Rep. would vote for the legislation. Bono told the Rep. that if he didn't vote for the legislation U2 would put on a concert in his home town for 50,000 people, the Rep.s face would be put on 100 foot tall screens, and Bono would tell the crowd to never vote for him again. The Rep was very happy to vote for the legislation.

The bit with the handclapping was, Bono was trying to get across that every few seconds a person dies from something totally preventable. It's unfortunate some smartmouth didn't let him finish his point.

Aww, you know I'm very sorry guys- really- I should never post when I'm as sleep deprived as I was this morning when I wrote that (65000 words written for the month and likely 10+ still to go before it's anywhere near done- before Monday night- ack! and the in laws were here so we had BIG family get togethers and you know my family...) So I guess I'm more than the usual amount of 'touchy' (and no gentlemen in case you were wondering I can't even claim PMS this time!) I should have just gone to bed instead of saying anything cause I know you all better than I gave you credit for in that post.

I know you all well enough by now to know how huge your hearts are and how caring you are- all the people who commented here are particularly dear to my heart among the SGT population. Sorry I went off on a rant there.

big hugs to you all, and Happy Thanksgiving- I am thankful to be able to come here and hang out with you all and for the dear acts of kindness that you've shown me on the forum and beyond it. And now I will stop before I cry into my coffee cup.

love ya'll!!!

ROFL Hobie! and this is why I just can't help it. I love the man.

Not to mention he's a kick ass rock star. I think Bono is one of the few people on earth that, if say I ever found myself in an elevator with or ran into at an airport, that I would truly be struck dumb(er).

I'd look like a freaking idiot LOL and I don't get starstruck.

Happy turkey day Hobie!!! The dude abides- he also rocks out loud.

Interesting use of pressure huh? The only star I was ever in an elevator with was Wolfman Jack at the Anchorage Sheraton. I gave him a howl as the doors were closing.

Have an excellent turkey day and pig out. We start in about two hours. :D:

Bru, you said something that needed to be said; lots of stars do charity work, yet most people seem to believe that they do it for the publicity. You simply reminded us that celebs really do care about the less fortunate, and in no way could your post be construed as bitchy.

Wow, Hobie, you met the Wolfman in an elevator? I miss his one-of-a-kind personality. You wouldn't happen to know where I could get a copy of that song, "Clap For The Wolfman", would you?

He was there to MC a blast from the past concert. The headliners were The Association and Paul Revere & The Raiders. It was held in the local HS gym and had been sold out for months.

I remember the Association and Paul Revere and the Raiders; I presume this was back in the 60s? Yeah, something like that, with the Wolfman as MC, would definately be sold out for months ahead. Wait, you said blast from the past-- the Wolfman died sometime in the 80s, so I'm thinking 70s, then. Still....
