WDW CMs Killed on DCL Stop in Cozumel

Post by Syndrome » Mon Nov 23, 2009 2:11 pm

I wasn't sure whether this should go in the newsroom or here. Board X has info. on it, but it's in a Spanish-language newspaper as it happened in Cozumel. Apparently two AK CMs were killed in a jeep accident when they collided with passengers from another ship in another jeep. Sounds like a terrible tragedy, although details are sketchy due to the awkward article translation.

No further info on the CM's, but here are two stories that appear to be about the same incident:

Tampa police officer critically injured in Cozumel crash

Firefighter also hurt in Mexico crash

It's apparently a very bad spell for DCL. On the Nov. 19 Wonder cruise (which I was on) the people on the Segway tour in Nassau were robbed at gunpoint. We were very, very close to going on that tour ourselves as we have done it before and loved it. That definitely won't be happening now, as DCL has cancelled it completely. I can't even imagine the terror of being held up while on a shore excursion.

I can't say much, but I will say this.

They weren't all DAK CMs.

Such a sad tragedy :( .

Hopefully wtftv won't get ahold of this and make it sound like Disney's fault.
Is DCL canceling the Segway tours,or stops in Nassau all together?

They're just cancelling the Segway tour, as is RCCL (and I suspect the other cruise lines who were doing it will as well). It's a shame that gun toting maniacs have pretty much killed a local eco-tourism business. It was a lovely tour.

Nassau is really going downhill. Last time we disembarked I felt really uncomfortable; have been there many times and never felt that way before. We were in a nearly deserted store and two local guys bumped into Mr. Syndrome despite their being plenty of room to get around him. I think they were hoping to get his wallet but he doesn't carry one in ports.

This was my trip report on the tour when we did it in April:

Ironically, in the report I say the tour is very "safety oriented." I guess there's not much you can do about armed thugs.
