I just had to install another array a couple of weeks ago, and drop a server down before the array went in. Let me just say, thank God for innovation! The server is much older, and was much heavier, despite having fewer drives!
It was "easy" to slide in the new array. Of course it is just a small 12 drive unit. We only have 4TB of space on the new server. I'm disappointed.

True
I see more failures of the others and don't get me started on the retail WD disks

WD disks are a guarantee to lose everything.

Between WD disks and people who don't do backups, the data recover business is guaranteed to make money.

A couple more words:
RAID array with a parity drive in a system that will do automatic reconstructs.

A couple more words: A spanned LVM array on top of RAID 5 with two parity drives.

Are the WD OEM drives any better? I have 2 towers with them from the factory, both backed up 3 ways from sunday, and no problems touch wood.
