Do you know any busybody CM's?
Do you know any busybody CM's?
I think these are the worst types of employees. I think I hate them. It makes them feel special when they butt into your business. These people seem to get personally offended when any kind of work rule is broken. Get a life, loser!
I can think of several incidents but there is one that sticks in my head the most. Recently I gave a cast member a break. Afterwards we talked for a couple of minutes. She told me that while onstage she opened her cellphone to see what time it was. She did not call anyone, she did not text message anyone, she just checked the time. I know of lots of CM's that use their cellphone as a watch. I pull mine out on a daily basis when a guest asks for the time.
So this busybody CM (she was in guest services) saw the girl do this and she IMMEDIATELY runs off to call our department to tell on her. Does this woman have nothing better to do? Does this give here life meaning? Our management talked to her. I don't think she got in trouble. They just told her not to do it again.
I would completely understand her going to our management if she was doing something outrageous onstage like smoking, swearing at guests, or something like that. But come on! Get a life, you asshat!

actually we're not supposed to USE our cell phones onstage and USING your cell phone to check the time is USING your cell phone. If she were to have opened it in her pocket, and checked the time from there that's one thing, but to bring it out where i can be seen, is another. However going and calling the department might have been a bit over the top i probly would have said something to her right there and let it go. The park is themed and the only place where cell phone sightings might be permissable would be tomorrowland. all other places in the park are themed to pre-cell phone, tomorrowland is a strech at that because it's the pasts veiw of the fututre wherein a cell phone might be beyond imagination.
I'd rather be a busy body, then flat out lazy. get a watch if you need to know the time, and if you can't read it, get one that's digital, which probly isn't themed either, but management isn't going to tell you no.
And to say that the worst type of employee is one who sees somethign wrong, and does something about it, is absolutly absurd. If i were at indy in the tower, and i saw something wrong, let's say a person on the track, and i just let it happen, do you realize the consiquences that my failure to do something. That person could die, now a cell phone on stage isn't going to cause death, but it very well could break someone's day. The two fo you probly shouldn't have been standing around talking either.
don't post crap like that here.

wow, that was mean.GMC wrote:don't post crap like that here.
IMHO something like that is better dealt with personally. I've worked in strict environments like that before. Typically at very least on the first time I'll walk over to the person and say "Hey, just a heads up cause I don't want you to get in trouble, you aren't supposed to take cell phones out".. Immediately going to the management and being a stool pigeon is a good way to loose friends quickly.

The only time we can use our cell phone ONSTAGE if it was emergency if a guest or CM suddenly collapsed or fainted.
I use my cell phone all the time to check the time. i broke my watch and using my cell hpone as my watch for now. Some people just don't have time in their busy schedule to go out and buy a watch so they have to use your phone as their watch for now.
I agree with GMC, going to management is going overboard. It wasn't that important. They should of gone to management if it was for safety of the guests or the CMs.

Lots of BS here.
To suggest that using the clock function of a cell phone is what was meant by the "no cell phone use" rule is just silly.
For most of the Magic Kingdom, wristwatches are just as out of place as a cell phone. I've gone to the trouble of buying a pocket watch so I can check time on Main Street without creating a bad show, but that's a personal choice (and a personal expense).
As for those who complain about me or my behavior without trying to contact me directly first, I think the term "busy body" is too mild. So is "snitch". The term I prefer is "rat".
But more importantly, let's all try to keep this about behaviors, and not about each other, okay?

If a guest saw me looking at my cellphone and that particular event ruined their day, than they are a moron. I won't modify my behaviour for a moron.
If you had read my ENTIRE post, you would have seen that I had said that I would have supported the CM going to our management if the other CM was doing something outrageous. I do not condone dangerous behavior by CM's or by guests.
And I still hate busybody losers with no lifes! :D
Also, I never quite get why management is so obessively hard line on not walking and talking while doing your work, no matter how little there is to do and why they call it a disservice to guests. Would any guest care as long as we pay immediate full attention to them when needed? Management is more concerned about the walking and talking more than just talking in place... another oddity. I seem to get 4X more guest questions when Im standing next to another cm, and of course we immediately stop whatever conversation we're having and race to get a map out first.
Of course tonight not a single manager who I saw working was alone while doing hourly jobs.

I guess I don't understand what you mean by 'walking & talking'... is this like you are walking through the park and talking to a co-worker?? I think if it's work related it might be relevant but if you are just yakking about something that happened to you or what you watched on tv while you are working in say, Fantasyland.. it might be a "keep the magic" issue. Also, whether it's cast or personal.. it's always a safety issue.abc wrote:Also, I never quite get why management is so obessively hard line on not walking and talking while doing your work, no matter how little there is to do and why they call it a disservice to guests. I'm a little embarressed to say that I broke in my work shoes during orientation because they kept impressing on us we needed to check the boxes that correlated to all the show/story/etc.. elements we saw as we were going through backstage & the park.. There was so much info being discussed by the trainers & pointed out I got behind on my box checking & when I *did* start to do that as we were walking along, I walked right into one of those yellow bendy safety cones.. (One of my trainers visibily winced and I got a good laugh from the dozen of us walking along) I got a serious gouge in my shoes too.. I really liked them when they were still new and not gougey (I've since got a couple more so it's not as annoying).
SAFETY is the most important key (and watching where you walk as you talk is a good thing too). *VBG* Something I suppose I should consider is that at least it was backstage and during orientation.. and not say while I was working and I walked into a guest or their baby instead??

abc, you are custodial, correct? Think this is a hard line issue because of the "poor show" aspect management is fearful CMs might create. When I hired in we were told NOT to perform our work & talk/walk also. This has become a mega safety concern @ DLR. There are always the abusers! I see management's point. However talking to CMs we work side by side with or pass every so often is necessary -abc wrote:Also, I never quite get why management is so obessively hard line on not walking and talking while doing your work, no matter how little there is to do and why they call it a disservice to guests. fun also.
