Pneumarsupialnia - My Trip to Disney's Center for Living Well

Post by Big Wallaby » Fri Oct 02, 2009 2:52 pm

DISCLAIMER: I did not intend this to become a preachy advertisement. But it looks like that is what it became. Oh, well. You can't accuse me of advertising for my own personal gain... in fact, I would think Disney would like me saying stuff like this. I decided to put up the info at the end of this post when I was texting Shorty82, and I found out that I had information he would like.

So after five days off because I couldn't take a step without falling into a debilitating coughing fit, I went to the Center for Living Well. I was afraid that they would just brush me off like the last time I had bronchitis. At the Center for Living Well, they actually care about your wellness and don't see you as a number like CentraCare apparently does.

They took X-Rays, listened to my lungs and started aggressive treatment for pneumonia. Not only did they take the X-Rays, but they brought them in to me to see what they were looking at... never had that done before. They took time with me to really find out what was going on...it was almost like I had stepped way back in time to when I had a pediatrician (the one who hugged me when I was in a really bad roller blading accident and he was soooo glad I had been wearing a helmet) and it felt like they actually cared how I felt and they cared that I would get better soon. It was almost like I had stepped into a small community hospital, the kind where everyone knows everyone, and I felt really good about being there to be taken care of when my care was beyond my ability.

I have to admit, I was skeptical when Disney first announced the Center for Living Well and with all the hulabaloo around it, but after my experience last night, I have decided to make them my PCP. If anyone would like to do the same, it's easy. Call CIGNA (1-800-577-7498) and talk to a live representative. You can choose from three PCP options:
Paul Boor, MD - ID #5554851
Luis Mojicar, MD - ID #3190178
Or you can do what I did and just make Center for Living Well your general PCP, ID #8659796

So eighteen hours later, after the visit (and a shot full of Prednisone and antibiotics, and an inhaler, and cough syrup that could knock out the entire Chinese army in one sip), I am feeling a good deal better, and looking forward to going back to play with Monorails.

In short, my trip the the Center for Living Well was a great experience in health care, in a high-tech yet warm and welcoming facility. While I have not studied the EPCOT as closely as I would like, you know that watching for the wellness of those living and working at the EPCOT would have been a major part of the plan. While in so many ways the idea of the EPCOT has been butchered and mangled, in this instance I think they got it absolutely right. I think Walt would approve of the Center for Living Well.

Okay, so this kinda became a preachy advertisement for Center for Living Well. I'd better put a notice at the top.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

OMG Wallaby!!! I'm glad to hear the docs there were so good to you but geez, man, lay off the serious respiratory issues will ya? A fairy could get worried about you, ya know!

Take care and don't push it too much the first few days even when that prednisone kicks your lungs into overdrive and you feel like you have enough energy to take on the world. That drug is the devil and not being able to breathe is the deep blue sea, believe me I know. I pushed it when I had pneumonia a few years back and was sick longer because of it (of course when you're a mom it's hard not to).

So give your body the time it needs to heal (and watch out for that wicked Prednisone energy drop off! After you stop taking it you feel like you can sleep for a year, at least I did every time I took it) and feel better soon!!!!

Wish I could beam you over a pot of chicken soup.

I love The Center for Living Well :D: . Their prices for OTC Medicines are great.

Now, they just need to start accepting BasicMed (i.e. the limited Health Plan CRs get) and we'll be set, lol.

I fell in love with the Center for Living Well the other week when I went to see a doctor as I wasn't feeling well and was sick to my stomach. Barely got started on the new patient paperwork before I was called back. Barely got it done between the nurse taking my vitals and the doc coming in. The doctor examined me and prescribed some medicine and let me go. I was taken out front to take care of my copay and when I stepped over to the in-house pharmacy to get the medicine it was ready. While the service was quick it wasn't hurried. The nurses and doctor actually cared and didn't treat me like some number somewhere.

I was in and out of there quickly, no sitting around waiting forever for treatment like every other doctor's office I've been in. I took a book and wound up not having time to read any of it. It was also affordable, their co-pay is less than even in-network providers and the prescription was only $2.00 out of pocket. They are also convenient for cast, next door to Health Services in the Epcot Cast parking lot and their hours are set up to be convenient for all the varying times CMs work.

Yep, and if it isn't there you get into trouble. :D:

I need to make the Center my PCP. Been meaning too since April. I went to them and probably had the worse experience out of anyone lol. I wasn't taken in quickly due tot he doctor running late, so there were those who did come in after me that went first. I was taken in though and explained my situation to them: had a blister form on my stump and it wasn't healing. When she saw it, she gave me some antibiotics cause it looked infected and told me to take a week off of the leg (so no work). The experience, overall, was much better than the PCP i currently have.
