Chowder Saga: 3 complaints: New Personal Record!

Post by madhatter04 » Fri Nov 26, 2004 10:40 pm

Hello!
I have survived another Thanksgiving week at the River Belle Terrace, but I couldn't get through Wednesday night without having 3 people complain to my lead about me.

I was put on cash for the last 2 hours the restaurant was open. This lady (she even LOOKED like a basket case!) approached me as the next guest in line and was swearing under her breath about our menu. "This is ridiculous... this is STUPID..." she kept chanting.

"You know what, I need two kids' hot dog meals, but I need clam chowder in a bread bowl instead of the corn chips and baby carrots."

I knew there was going to be a fight up ahead, so I politely stated. "I'm sorry, ma'am... I can give you a scoop of mashed potatoes, steamed veggies... any regular side order in place of the corn chips or baby carrots... but I can't give you bread bowls with clam chowder in place of them."

She huffed and puffed and looked up at the menu again. "This is so STUPID!!!! This is so God D***ed STUPID!!! Why the hell not?!" So I proceeded to explain to her that a side of chowder in a bread bowl was an $8 meal and to replace a small side with it wouldn't be possible. I then explained to her that we had run out of bread bowls so all chowder orders would be served in a bowl with 4 dinner rolls on the side.

"This is absolutely ridiculous!!!" she repeated. I told her I could give her additional sides of clam chowder, but they would be an extra charge. I AGAIN reminded her about our bread bowl situation.

"You know what?! Fine! I dont care!! They're just going to throw the carrots away!!!! I'll take two hot dog meals, with carrots I GUESS... and a normal chowder meal with ranch dressing." I reminded her AGAIN about the bread bowl situation, and she replied "YOu know what?!?! I DONT CARE!! I just want my food now!" She threw her credit card at me and held her annual pass up. "I want my discount, too."

"I'm sorry, ma'am, our location doesn't offer the annual pass discount." I knew I was in for it at this point...

"WHAT in the name of HELL is wrong with you people?!?!? I've been to four places today and no one will give me a discount!!!!" I explained to her politely that she could pick up a copy of the AP discount/benefit books. She signed her EDC, and stormed to pick up her food. This whole ordeal lasted about 10 minutes.

Next, one of our hosts told her again about the bread bowl situation and she pounded the counter exclaiming "D*mn! D*mn! D*mn! Your STUPID cashier didn't say ANYTHING about bread bowls! He told me you would have PLENTY!! Get your manager out here!! I wanna make sure he gets punished!!! He was so rude!! My visit has been RUINED!"

So one of the hosts got our lead, who listened to the lady complain and moan about her order, and the lead told her the exact same thing I told her and dismissed it (i have a reputation of being very polite/laid back, so she didn't believe her when she said I was being undeniably rude and whatnot).

As if that wasn't enough, some lady from the back of the line runs up to the lead and says "Hey! Your cashier is being SLOW!!! Get him out of there!!!! The people at the counter are working so hard but he's taking his time! I want to eat before the park closes!" So then the lead explains to HER that I can only work as fast as people are ordering. To put it bluntly, I felt like crap at this point.

And, to make matters worse, some teenager yelled "OUT OF BREADBOWLS?!?!?!? WE CAME ALL THE WAY OVER HERE AND THEY RAN OUT OF BREADBOWLS?!?!?!? and ran up to the lead to tell her God knows what I had done and how I ruined their night. Luckily I wasn't reprimended because none of this was my fault, but it sure was enough to make me feel like nothing for the rest of the night!

Hello, and welcome to the Attractions and You, Line of Bussiness Training Course.

What you've just experienced is every guest who('s):
kid is too short, and they want to break the law and put them at risk anyway (should i call child services for you miss, you nor anyone else has the right to put your child at unnecessary risk)

Their fast pass was taken and the ride broke down (90% of the time they just left w/o wait for us to give them a Re-Ad)

They have to see the film agian (poor babies it's one minute long and you just spent an entire half hour dealing with it in which time you could have been on, off and halfway through the line.)

then there are the times where you kinda act like the lead, so they think they've spoken to you, but then they get the lead they're all i spoke to the lead inside, blah blah blah, and the lead kinda looks at them and says uh, no you didn't i'm right here.

Having worked in theme park food service myself in a similar situation. Really you did the only thing yo could have done. I used to be a food service lead at Legoland. 4th of July one year we were swamped and running out of everyting (the lead who ordered forgot to double order for the 4th). People were pissed at me because we didn't have anything. We ran out of pizza crust, we ran out of sauce. It was so bad that my Supervisor was in there cooking pizza with us.

People were pissed at me for us running out of stuff. Nothing I could do or say was the right thing. Props for you for keeping your cool as much as possible. People want things their why regardless of whether you can do it or not.

GMC is right thought that does ring bells about the stuff we put up with at Attractions, except we have it easy no food or money to deal with. I personally don't have the hieght requirement issue. But I do have to tell people they can't take food on the ride and they get all pissed at me because they didn't know. If they refuse to step to the side, throw the food away or seal it up and put it away, we have to escort them out.

Holy moly! I feel so bad for your Thanksgiving experience!! Yes, I too used to work in Food Service (at SeaWorld) and I will never, ever miss rude guests! The way people would lie and try and cheat for something they wanted was incredible. I don't know about people sometimes. And they would ususally pick on young team members to get their way. Luckily, I could see right threw their deception! Haha.

Well, goodluck with Christmas! ;-0

That's it?

Hm. Ok.

Well yesterday actually "Crazy Blue Lady" showed up at RRC yesterday. (For those of you who dont know about this british psycho, she is the one that, being serious, swears up and down that the joke about the dome over MK...is REAL, Ill get to that in a moment)

(I was at launch base at the time)Anyway, she showed up and wanted, no actually demanded us to hang onto her bag while she went on the ride, we aren't able to do that so she then decided not to ride. So the back grouper told her how to exit the ride...then she refused to leave. For ten minutes she stood there, never left. Finally they call in the manager who goes through the exact same deal. Eventually, he calls me on the radio and tells me to get security in there now. At this time, she begins walking BACK THROUGH THE ALLEY TOWARDS STUDIO C...SHE WAS DOING THE "SALMON AGAINST THE STREAM" MOVE!!!

So we (myself and the manager), lose her in the crowd that's in the alley (Meanwhile Im trying to dispatch limos and keep up with all the other items in LB). We find her again and by the time Security gets there, she is halfway back to C. So Im frantically calling the person in Studio C, naturally, they dont want to answer. When they finally do, I literally say (At this point laughing my ass off) theres a woman coming back towards studio C. Have her turn around and comeback to the alley.

So when the manager and security get to Studio C, she's doing this recon "peak around the corner then duck back" move and they just surround her (Meanwhile,80 people are trying to get out of Studio C). The manager asked if she was alright (Why?) then requested to go through the bag to see what was so damn important, she declind (Damn her). So they began to escourt her out of the building.

BUT, she didn't want to go through the bypass tunnel which would be so easy to get to. Nope, she wanted to go back through C, the ramp, and stand by line..... So we're guessing she was :bounce: or had been in a :throw: incident recently.

Now, about the dome, a friend I have at Coaster whos room mate works at MK ran into this woman the day before. It was the day the cold front so it was raining. She came up to him and said "Ok, you guys can pull out the dome now"

He was so freakin confused. He told her there was no such thing and she was dead serious "Dont play with me, I know its here! It comes out from the castle and it spreads out over the park".....

SHE DID THIS TO THREE OTHER PEOPLE.

Alrighty then...top that.

Well, I don't know if this tops it, but here's mine. I was at Roger Rabbit Friday, the ride broke down, station backup not normally a big deal, but we had a guest in a wheelchair on and I wasn't sure if they'd be able to evac or if we'd have to do a good old running repair situation. So, I gave a big estimate for the downtime 20-30 min (usually it's about 15-20 depending on the crew) and this one lady who's like second in line tries to get my attention, I was at console so I couldn't go over and send my loader over. She starts yelling at her saying, we've waited over and hour and you want us to wait longer? (I felt like saying, no actually because you're being a b**** we don't want you to wait at all, we want you to leave) She called my loader a skinny b**** and all kinds of stuff, just basically acting like we broke it on purpose. Starts insisting on getting a fastpass, and my loader's like I can't give you one cause then I have to give the group behind you one and so on, where do I draw the line? She just wasn't happy, and then of course, when we evaced, we put the people that were on the ride in front of her. We were expecting her to say something, but she didn't amazingly. Oh and BTW, the downtime was only 18 min, so it was less than the minimum time I said. Oh yeah, and her b/f or whatever kept saying 'Honey, the ride broke.' So at least he knew what was going on.

Earlier in the day (I saved the worst for last) this guy is kinda pacing around the exit of RR and I figure he's just waiting for someone and is impatient. Finally, he comes up to me, not reasonably, and starts telling me very rudely you have to shut this down. I was thinking 'excuse me?' but simply said, what's the problem. He tells me his daughter or someone (he was kinda ranting so it was hard to tell) was 'wandering around in here' I assume she's in line and he ignored our posted wait time and thinks it's taking too long, so I ask him how long has she been in line, he says 40 min, so I tell him that our line is longer than 40 min so she's probably still in line and he's more than welcome to go through the entrance and look for her in line (if someone's says they're looking for their kid people will let them through, I simply couldn't leave I had to run the ride) and he storms off, so I figure he's gonna go look for her, find her and all will be good. I was soooooooo wrong. He comes back a little later, ignores me goes as close to the loading area as the fence will let him and starts yelling at the loader to go look for his kid, starts cussing him out and the loader's like I can't leave here so then the guy tells the loader to come outside and he's gonna kick his ass, he's screaming this across the station. So we call security. The guy leaves, then comes back and finally decides he'll look through the line, but comes through the exit and hops all the fences to get to the line, rather than simply walking through the front door, and starts basically pushing people out of the way. Well, I lost track of the guy but apparantely he left through the entrance, then security showed up and the loader went out to find the guy and identify him. I don't think he was ever found, however, and I don't know if his daughter was found either, but I didn't really care at that point, he was just completely unreasonable and thought we were going to stop the ride cause his daughter was still in line.

I guess you guys can judge if that tops it, and I apologize for the large chunks of type, I've always been bad with paragraphs. :D

I was chatting with a custodial friend in the middle of Tomorrowland one day when a light rain began to fall. An older woman came up to us, interrupted very politely and asked, "Why is it raining? I thought there was a dome over the park?"

My friend, without missing a beat, explained, "The dome is very thin and transparent. So much so that birds flying through can rip it, and we can't tell until it starts to rain and we see a leak like this one. Now that we know it's torn, we'll replace it tonight so there will be a fresh new dome over the MK in the morning."

"Oh, well that certainly makes sense. Thanks for explaining it so nicely."

you've already told that one....

One day at Grouper:
How many
Two (young couple very happy to be there not at all annoying, the young lady seems smart enough, but was appearently caught up in her suroundings. also probly thinking roller coaster[i hate Indy because it's difficult to explain what the ride actually is]) we'd like front row front car please(this is the girl)
I'm sorry?
like the front row, only in the front car too. (ie matterhorn has dual sleddage)
BF: (to GF) umm, i don't think this one works that way
yeah there's only one row one.
oooh, ok thank you! Luckily I was just about to try my hand at triple grouping north, so in the time it took her to realize our system,i wasn't sending empty transports into the attraction.

at least she didn't yell or hee and haw about it, she just kinda smiled, said something about her won stupidity, thanked me for her help, and got on the ride.

I can top both those stories, but just thinking of the SGT (which is alluded to ealier in the thread in my first posting here, it' the one about the film room, and damnit, i had to dispatch thier vehicle.) ...anywho, just tinking about it reminds me how mad i was, how defeated i felt, and how by the end of it, i had won a fight that i didn't even want to have happen in the first place. The moral of the story is, no matter how nice you are to people, their still going to treat you like shit because they get off on it. Those... sorry i need to stop now. if anyone has been wondering why i've been kinda less nice than usual, it's mostly because of this incident from Monday that i've mostly put out of my mind, but deep down inside i want very much to give those people a peice of my mind, and just tear them right down to the ground. these people were everything that this site has put out there and more! right down to the kids begging thier parents to stop fighting and if they could please go. I hope they had a shit rest of thier day, hated the ride, and are now suffering from back problems. I didn't and don't know what emotion to feel about them. Just trust me, my story wins. i'm going to go have some tea now.
