I always maintained mom never saw the glass as being either half-full or half-empty. If you were to fill it to the brim, not only would she not see it as full, but she'd deny the glass was even there! I'd try to offer solutions to her about some things (she always complained about the child-resistant caps on her medicine bottles; if I said have them give you non-childproof ones, she'd say that's how they came with her health plan, and they couldn't switch them. Or if she complained about how much her medicines cost, I'd look them up online, and tell her that she can get them for less at say, Target, $10 for a 3 month supply, and she'd mumble something about not wanting to change her insurance, etc., in order to get them like that. Once I was approached in the library by a young man asking if I knew anyone with COPD, he was handing out flyers for a study, I brought one home to mom, but she wasn't interested. That woman could find more excuses....!), and she'd refuse them. I think she honestly loved to complain. I don't understand that.
