Sounds like you were there when Blue came out for its MAPO check. The train in the station basically has orders to MOVE once cleared to do so, because we are testing the avoidance system, and we already have the trains closer than we want them to be. Because at that moment there is so much going on on the radio (using the same microphone as the PA), we are listening and looking all around our train, we have to make sure we have all the green lights, we have to make sure the platforms around us are clear... telling you to hold on is not something we think to do.

Sorry about that.

I do think we should have a special spiel for safety checks, telling you the train will take off without any warning (unless you know what to listen for in the air brakes and motors).

That was harsh, McKey.

But seriously, from inside a crowded train, it would be nearly impossible to hear the air system depressurize.

I'm guilty of not spieling for this myself. Usually, if we are holding for a while I will alternate the auto holding spiel with a live spiel, and try to remember to give you guys a heads up as we start moving. But sometimes, when I know I will need to be on the radio I will just spiel that we are wrapping up whatever we are doing, and will be leaving within the next few minutes, or "momentarily". But I am nowhere near as dedicated to doing this in the station as I am when stopped out on the open beamway.

The other part of that is also to keep the doors open as long as possible. That way, when they do close, everyone can be ready. Again, there are times, and the other day was one of them, when that would have produced a safety problem.

Don't hang your head too low, McKey ... I'm willing to admit I'm a fan of "Fail" pics, and your post gave me quite a chuckle. :D

And, of course, in talking with McKey, he knows the humor I was using.
