That reminds me of a presentation I sat through. It was given by a JAG officer (military lawyer). He stated officers shouldn't be subjected to any penalties under the Universal Code Of Military Justice (UCMJ) because it would affect their careers. Enlisted people, however, should always pay the price whenever they got busted.

After facing over 100 enlisted people, some of whom got close to being charged with assault, he beat a hasty retreat.

Looking at some of the stuff coming out of Iraq, this attitude is still prevalent throughout the military.

Back on subject from my first post... The total cost of what I have been going through is over 30,000 dollars... and my insurance won't cover it... Can a miracle happen and someone very rich take pity on people who are middle class and undergoing stuff like me? :( Sigh...

Very Sorry, Purpura. :(
DLR CMs don't have coverage for things like surgery?
Medical Bills are #1 reason people have to declare bankruptcy, happened to my brother when he was a young man and not covered for emergency surgeries and hospitalizations.

It depends on what medical insurance program they're put on if they're full time or part time.

I am part time and they put me on something that only covers 1000 dollars a year. I'm going to quit that, and hope MSI will help cover more... and I will probably be bankrupt too... Meh.

$1,000 dollars a year won't even cover an ER visit
I know this is controversial, but I really hope we can get a health-care system in place to cover people who are needing serious medical care. Hospitals do not make enough to stay open due to current system= everyone loses. Have heard many arguments on both sides. Maybe Glendalais has insight whether or not National Health Care System would work here. Have a feeling we won't see a successful model for many years if not decades. In the meantime, people and Hospitals go bankrupt.
Don't want to start an argument, just sad that good people are devastated when a medical emergency arises. :(

Regarding DLR health insurance; I'm full time & have never been assigned a health insurance carrier - not even when I was PT. We are able to choose health plans from a semi long list of companies. Was just @ Dr's yesterday - UCI. He was very knowledgeable abt DLR insurance & how it works. Really surprised me, as did the hr. & 20 minutes he spent with me. His recommendation was to convert to Blue Cross through Disney. Stated I'd receive better care ( keeping UCI) & have access to a wider range of hosp. & Drs. Just throwing this out on board. Might be of interest to other CMs.

Just now spotted this thread -- do keep us posted, Purpura. We'll be sending good thoughts your way. (I know that's not quite as good as sending $$$, but we're still paying for two surgeries ourselves... :shrug :)

I have heard from people who are residents of both Canada and the U.K., which have a national healthcare system, and both say they pay way higher taxes than we Americans do. Though I'm aware that because of the increased use of high-tech diagnostic equipment is part of the reason, there's also the fact that insurance companies are gouging doctors with their requirements for extremely expensive medical malpractice insurance.

And then there are people who use the ER for the dumbest reasons. Mom used to say she saw this family with a couple of little kids, including a baby, who came to the ER. The problems they had were minor, and could've been taken care of by the parents themselves with just a bit of common sense. As I recall, the baby just needed to be burped, the one child needed his ears cleaned, and the others had similarly minor problems. Why do people do that? Why can't they try doing things at home?

During both World Wars, people on the home front were encouraged to learn first aid and other ways of reducing the need to call the doctor. It worked great. People used to doctor themselves, why can't they do that now? I mean, seriously....

Purpura, have you talked to the hospital about making payments? Or explaining your situation and ask if assistance is available? There has to be a way to work things out.

Yes I am getting help from the hospital with a payment thing... Just got the news earlier.

I'll have to go to the hospital on Monday at 6 am (Hence the title of this thread, Monday Monday)
