Yeah...during my not so coherant training at pooh after my double back guests were asking me all kinds of questions while I was in an area I still didn't know. To this day my Favorite question at Pooh is....

"What happened to the Country Bears?"
"They've retired to Florida but they also tour in Japan"

But grad night shifts were fun...ah yes scaring the crap out of teenagers at the mansion....Walking up to them from load 2, turning the power off in the Expanding Room because I had a mosh pit in there....man I am SO glad its November.

It's double time.

The rule states that if you come back with leass than 8 hours, but more than 6 between the 2 shifts then you receive doubleback for the portion of your shift that is within thouse hours. IE: You get off at 2400 (12am) and have to be back at 0730 for your next shift, then you would get 30 minutes of doubleback. If you come back for your next shift and its less than 6 hours, you receive doubleback for your whole shift.

And all doubleback is is time and a half rate.

I worked a grad nite at Indy one year, the 23-7 shift and had to be at the mansion at 10 for another 8 hour shift. All I did was go get a costume change and go sleep in the mansion break room for a few hours. By the end of my mansion shift I was so tired from being up from around 0630 the day before that I could not even speil in the ER any more, my toung and voice went on strike. Everything I said just slured together and was incoherent.

The only reason it happened was because I had done a few shifts changes that all got approved by different schedulers who didn't pay attention.

Double Back

ah the pains of late endings and early starts... especially for CP's and CT's without a car!

i had a full 30 minute discussion with our ETR clerk this summer about double back...

basically anything less than 8hrs between shifts is double back... BUT NOT DOUBLE PAY! You would have to still work over 12 hrs that first day to get double pay for that second day. The reason? the two days are treated as one really long single day...

SO if you work only 8 hrs the first day and come in 7hrs and 59 minutes later for a second shift, you will only get TIME and a HALF... because that's when normal OT starts...

Disney is very smart about all of this stuff... thas why you have to watch your checks! That's also why for 6th day overtime they always make sure you work as short of a shift as possible on that day... can't blame them.

i imagine that it isn't only disney that is careful about it, they just have the resources to prevent it, most of the time.

I loved working 0700-1530, 0030-0630 that night for grad nite, then 1530-2400 for three shifts in two days (and no double-back).

My record was a 26 hour New Year's Eve shift. I was opening blue lead (when ODV teams were new), then covered the mid shift for a lead that called in, then covered the closing shift for another call-in. Started at 0530 December 31, left at 0730 January 1st. I think I closed ice cream short $10,000 or something, though I was pretty out of it by then.

If I have offended, I apologize from the bottom of my admittedly hypothetical heart.

Hi, I'm new. Where was this forum when I worked at Redd Rockett's?

Anyway, Grad Nights were hellish. But one girl stood out for making it fun. We were polite to the kids and did our best, and one girl just struck up a conversation with the pasta people. She was unsure about her future, and chatted with us for about half an hour. We talked about college options and things to do and not to do. Her friends finally had to come drag her off, but it was just kind of a neat moment. I think she was grateful she had someone around her own age to lay it out for her.

Keep your chins up. Sometimes a good kid will come through and give you a warm fuzzy feeling.
