Yes, its in Iowa, its was started as a german religious sect after they fled from germany.
When talking about the food, it reminds me of hearing my grandfather (and father) talking about feeding the thrashing crews that would travel from farm to farm during the harvest. the meals were something to be remembered. they served all kinds of dishes "taken" from various ethnic groups.
I remember home made potato pancakes my grandmother made. MUCH better that regular ones (IMHO) but very thick. served with butter and jelly. (My grandfather, sometimes, would have them with a brown gravy, but that was usually in the winter, when he was working outside)
