Question about the monorails....

I hate to sound like a SG, but how does a monorail get off the resort loop? I know you get off the epcot loop by doing the switch at the TTC, but it does not look like that switch also goes over to the resort loop.

The switch before the contemporary only looks like it can connect to the express loops as well, so i don't see how you get off the resort loop.

Also, monorails on the express loop travel counterclockwise around the loop. This means that to go from the switch at the contemporary to the monorail shop you would have to pass the switch, stop, and back up over the switch and to the shop. Do the monorail drives have to go in reverse all the way to the shop?????

In a word, yes. Everything connects to the express line.

There is a switch though for the life of me I can't remember for certain where it is at right now. I located the Epcot and Shop switches on Google Maps but couldn't find the Resort switch.

If you're riding the Monorail, you notice that the pylons are numbered. Pylon 60 is the joining point between Switches 1 and 2. Switches 1 and 2 connect the Resort line to the Express line, or they can be straight (or Mainline). Switch 2 can either go to the Resort by joining with 1, go Mainline, or to the Shop Spur. Originally, that was the only switch.

After that, the switches become confusing to the layman.

In Monorail_Red's post, Monorail Magic (here for the lazy), he has found a video of the switch from Cab 6. The train from which the picture was taken is about to go from Express to Resort. And that driver should not have been taking that video. But, too late now.

Between the MK and Contemporary is where the monorails can be switched between Resort/Express (Switch 1) and Express/Shop spur (Switch 2).

I made these images up in MS paint just to illustrate (I know, not to scale...pilots please 10-23 :) ). For the color code...the yellow beam is the Resort beam, the green is Express, blue is the shop spur, the red are the switch beams that move, and that black dot is where switch beams 1 & 2 come together (60) as BW described. I know what you're thinking...why green and yellow? Strobe light colors. As to the red and black...only for the purpose of color coding. For the blue, if I remember correctly there's some blue reflectors on the spur...

Express to Express and Resort to Resort (normal):

Express to Spur (to bring train out from or return to shop):

Express to Resort (for trains to cross over between Express and Resort):

The Express/Epcot switch is just outside of the TTC on the Express line (Switch 8), and a little farther down the Epcot line (Switch 9).

Switches 3-7 are in the shop area.

Amber reflectors for standard hold points, blue and white for other hold points. There are some of them on the Epcot line between pylon 27 and uh... whatever pylon it is that the incoming and outgoing sides (from the TTC) share. I'm not sure what the white/blue means exactly, it probably has to do with power zones on the Epcot line. Maybe Wallaby would know.

I think that's 36 on one side but not sure about the other

I never noticed the different color reflectors on the mainlines, I thought that they were all orange. I'm surprised that I didn't notice that.

Oh...haha...is that because I made the switch beams red? :)

For those of you that don't know...Epcot monorails (are supposed to) have their above-cab strobes set to red.
