A bittersweet day for Monorail_Red
Hi Everyone.
A bittersweet day it is for me today.
As you all know from reading my posts, I have a deep desire to participate in the WDWCP.
But there's a whole part of me that you all don't know. During the past 5 years I've been working for my local school district for technology support. I loved it. This year they eliminated my position and I had the opportunity to take a related position.
Well, as promising as it looked, I didn't get the job...I got my letter today. :(
More than likely it's because of politics, and plus the place has been a bureaucratic mess, but I'm not going to get into that.
It's especially tough because it's the same school system that I went to school in from when I was 5yrs old all the way up to my senior year of high school. I had the opportunity of a lifetime. The people that were once my teachers became my co-workers and I got to know them in a different capacity. In other words, everyone became second family to me.
We all know it is always so hard to leave a place you are comfortable at...change is difficult. It's not the school system itself that I'm going to miss...it's all the wonderful people that I got to interact with every day for the past 12years that I'm going to miss, and there's no changing that.
But this is the turn of events that I needed to further encourage me to do the WDWCP, sooner than later, Spring 2010, because who knows what doors will open for me. If I did get the job, then I would have waited a year or two for the WDWCP.
Maybe this was just something that was meant-to-be. Let's hope so.
On a more positive note, I did get another tech job elsewhere so it's not like I'm going to be unemployed. Things could be worse for me...a lot worse. I consider myself to be very lucky.
Well I will see you all out there on the boards. Thanks for reading.

I was laid off twice during my working days. Both times turned into excellent opportunities with new jobs and responsibilities.

You may be right about this just being a way to get you to WDW sooner, Red. And that's never a bad thing! Best of luck.

I absolutely believe that when one door closes another opens.
If I fall in love with the CP which I think I may, I would be glad that I did it sooner rather than later.
In fact, depending on how it goes I may consider moving down to FL, get an apartment somewhere and go to one of the local colleges.
I can't wait! :D:

Hi Red, :)
The best advice I can give you about the Program is:
Get an actual Disney job as soon as possible. *grin* CP's do a lot of the thankless tasks, and while most of the good CP's are appreciated by the others at that location, you don't make much $$ and there will always be Cast Members that never were CP's who will not take you as seriously as they ought.
Having been a Fall Advantage CP myself I can tell you it's worth it... the first time. Take advantage of the Opportunities that CP's get. Doing "Give Kids the World" was an amazing experience. I have great memories of my program and I wouldn't trade them for the "World."
Good Luck on your Program!! :)

I hope you're able to turn this into a positive. If WDWCP is where you want to be, this could be a blessing in disguise.
Good luck!
PS -One of my brothers moved to Orlando to go to UCF. He loved it and calls Orlando his home now.

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

Que sera, sera. Whatever will be, will be. Losing the job may be a blessing in disguise, only time will tell.Monorail_Red wrote:Exactly. What happened was meant-to-be.
