So a few weeks back we were at Raging Waters in San Dimas. One of the slides there, Ragin' Racer, is a head first toboggan slide where Multiple Riders can race to the bottom. Now that the scene is set here is the story:

My Family and I all decided to go on this ride but my 8 year old Godson did not want to go, so Mom stayed with him till one of us could go back up and get him. Mom went on the next run and had some trouble getting started so she was the last to come down in that group. All eyes were on her. She took the first drop with no problem but after the second drop we realized she was going a bit fast. Before the third drop there is a little plume of water meant to slow you down, it didn't phase her at all and she flew off the last drop sailing through the air for about 3 feet before landing back on the slide with an audible thunk. The audience in line for rafts gave out a collective "OOH" (not kidding). But it doesn't end there kids! No of this slowed her down she kept going, skipping across the splash pool and... colliding into the wall. The man in lane next to her who was just getting up and collecting himself yelled, "How'd you do that!" The lifeguard had no idea what to do, other than to ask if she was alright. Mom just sat there laughing still processing what had just happened.

Here's what happened. The Tobaggan is just that but made of rubber and flexible. Mom's though process was pull back on the raft to slow down. ultimately what she did was turn her raft into a hydrofoil. She skipped right across the Plume of water meant to slow her down and hydroplaned across the pool at the end. It was a painful physics lesson that she could not forget for the next few days.

I pull up the front of my mat on Mach 5 at Wet N Wild all the time. Makes the landing way smoother.

I've done the same. In fact, I've done it trying to see if I can hit the back wall of the pool! Great fun.

If she'd made a little hop before the wall she could have slid in on the area around the pool. Extra points for standing when she stopped.

Yikes, I'm glad she's okay! That's one ride she'll never top.

The guy's comment reminds me of a memorable ride on the Zipper (the carnival ride). Mr. Syndrome and I used to ride those all the time. One day we somehow had our weight distributed perfectly and literally did four flips a in row. i still have no idea how; we just counted as we whipped wildly head over heels again and again. When we got off, a little boy ran up to us and said, "Wow, how did you do that?!" Sure wish I could have told him, but it was just one of those things.

side note: that is the water park they filmed some of one of the Bill and Teds movies at. It was called Waterloo in the movie, I think.
