Draw or copy art work & Kinko's or Stapples will make stickers DM. Very cool of you to think of doing this. Yes, hobie was the one who did Hero CM. Bet Ernie will be first CM to get a sticker from you. :usflag:

I need to track down Ernie and thank him on our next visit. I've read about him, seen video and one of the DL podcasts talks about him. True Hero.

Bru, you are so sweet to thank CMs like that. Mostly, I just get a simple "Thank you." and that's it from Guests when I'm working, but I rarely get a heartfelt "Thank you for making magic." or something similar. It is always much appreciated by CMs, trust me on that.

I see Ernie doing the flag ceremony in the evening. He hangs out with Mama Rose from Costodial. She is a real nice lady once you meet her.

Ktulu, Ernie is actually a Hero! He has saved lives! He was in Marine Corp 22 yrs. Served two tours during Gulf war, yet only shares his private experiences with guests he feels need a listening heart. Ernie is one of The Most Intelligent, skilled beings I've ever met! Ernie is brilliant, yet is able to speak with anyone on any level. His use of psychology is beyond belief! Never ceases to amaze me. He can diffuse more chaos with one of his clever phrases than a valid PhD. Ernie possesses such innate perception as he deals with guests. With all Ernie's wisdom & acalades he still remains a very humble man. We often talk about where he'd be if he had been given a chance to attend college. Ernie did dream of Broadway after high school. He is beyond multi talented musically. Love to hear him sing & play his harmonica. Sometimes Ernie does sing over at Coke Corner - just a few songs. I often see Ernie's long, tall, thin frame as he bends down to listen with kindness to a small child. Also am in awe when Ernie leans way down to respectfully speak with a veteran. Brings chills & tears. Veterans are Ernie's favorite guests. They make his day!! Saying all the above - Ernie is a nut! There are days I'm positive he is certifiable. ;) He is such fun backstage! Can give it & take it with extreme quick wit. We always play the "one upsman game." Sometimes I win. Love having Ernie walk out with me after shift. Never know what to expect, but I'm sure I'll be laughing all the way to my car. I always feel honored we are close friends.

A visit to DLR is not complete unless you have quietly stood near the Main Street Flag Pole & watched in pride as Ernie, with grace & dignity, Retires The Colors. Look at his face. Look into his steady watchful eyes. Ernie is not performing. Ernie truly respects this tradition he began. Flag Retreat would not exsist at DL if Ernie had not diligently crafted each detail to perfection. Ernie has fought with all his fortitude to keep Flag Retreat. He is passionate this tradition must continue for each guest even after he retires to Va. If any have seen Flag Retreat & believe the ceremony must continue please E mail, write, call, or go into Guest Relations & strongly write Disney positive comments. At times Disney "officials" state Flag Retreat is more like a funeral. There is fear Flag Retreat might actually end. We can't ever let this happen. We all need Flag Retreat - even inside the magic of the berm.

Main Streeter, THANK YOU for sharing about Ernie! :) We love him!

I saw my elderly FIL at Lake Tahoe last week (He drove from Oregon with a trailer!:eek :) We spoke of the Flag Retreat and Ernie, and he commented on
how special it was for him to be able to participate in the Flag Retreat and to meet Ernie. I think we need to maintain this tradition, and I know every Flag Retreat I've seen has a large amount of people surrounding to watch and silently give their respect to the brave men and women who have fought or are now fighting for our Country. Taking this away would remove some of the character of Main Street, USA. Disneyland is NOT just an Amusement Park, it is a place where you are transported to experience things as they were, wish they were, or how they may be(Tomorrowland). The CMs and Disney Traditions are what make this Magic every day! :)
