Aww geez Nota I'm crying too. We'll cry together.Notatourist wrote:Now, you've made me cry....

I can't stop crying over the monorail incident. You have to understand that almost everywhere you look in my house you're in view of the sight of a monorail in one form or other. A piggy bank here. A magnet there. Models and trains upstairs and down not just in the kitchen. The wallpaper on my computer, everything.
I can't believe the sight of Purple and Pink crashed like that. I know I'll never forget it. It's just a nightmare and I wish that time could be rewound so it didn't happen.
It's just such an unnatural sight- something I hope we never ever have to see again.
Sending you big hugs I need to go find another box of Kleenex now.
xoxo

Hey Bru, glad to see you're back. Sorry it came at a time of great sorrow for us all. We'll keep praying for you!

Sounds like a lot of progress has been made. Hang in there buddy!

(((((((Hobie)))))))!!!!
A hug for you ktulu ((((hug))) yeah, I was just getting ready honestly to come here and post today anyway then I saw the story and of course, my first thought was all of our CMs here and the regular posters too who I know would hurt like I hurt over seeing it all happen. Disney people are special people and not everybody on earth would understand why we're so thrown by this. It's a blessing to have people who I don't have to try to explain it to (though my family was worried about me when they saw the story on the news knowing how I'd take it)
The local fireworks display was tonight, our town actually puts on a really good one. We have the perfect view of it from our front window every year.
This year, even though it took the 'big ugly glasses'...guys, I could SEE it.
Yes, we cried a LOT. Hugs all around.

Re: Bru's eye surgery
Bru, I wouldn't worry about wearing big ugly glasses, some guys did it for fashion!

YES SIR RIGHT AWAY SIR!!!
HOOOOO RAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(and love the pic ktulu...I think I look like the girl at the end of Ferris Bueller (want a gummy bear?) but my family says I look like a powerpuff girl because they magnify the size of my (already huge) eyes. Bubbles, specifically...
*hides tears* what it's raining!
"Definitely no crime fighting today, because it's raining!" (obscure powerpuff girl reference)
One thing that is really odd that I forgot to mention too is that my left eye color has changed since the surgery! it's now a lot bluer than it has been in recent years- like it was when I was a child. I wonder if the other one will change after the lens is removed. Right now it's quite something to see, they tell me.
Man I've missed you guys.
Off to bed with me though. I've cried and cried today and my head is pounding. Talk to you tomorrow. It's so good to be able to read you all again.
xoxo

Re: Bru's eye surgery
Silent screen actor Harold Lloyd bought a pair of fake eyeglasses like Mr. Kimball's, and this seventy-five cent investment carried him to fame. He made movies before and after what are referred to as his "glass" pictures, but he's best known for those geeky specs. His website is fascinating. Amazing how he overcame a terrible accident and did his own stunts, despite having lost most of his right hand.
Re: Bru's eye surgery
Hey I love these geeky glasses stories! Thanks guys!
I have reveled in my geekitude for years (in fact there is a hilarious picture of me and Bucky Greenhorn "Future leading man" at the Studios from our last trip (he is gloriously geekified) with me wering my old glasses and my Ugly Betty T-shirt in which he and I look like siblings. So I know from geek and I wear that banner proudly.
I love star trek, I love books, and I wear big glasses.
I AM GEEK, hear me squeak!
I used to use the word geek-chic to describe my tastes years before it was used other places. So it's all Geek to me...
I just wish that I could walk in the aphakia glasses without walking like Captain Jack after the rum was gone. Believe me I almost killed myself in Target trying it. Needless to say that I can't wear them out.
But right now I'm wearing the contact lens and the temporary magnifiers and the text is all blurry. So it's still in the process of fine tuning...
You know I wonder if Ward Kimballs glasses inspired Edna Modes? I love Edna Mode...
"You are Elastigirl! My god pull yourself together!"
Speaking of stunts, one of the funniest encounters I ever had with a Streetmosphere CM (besides Bucky, who I just LOVED. We sang half a duet in harmony together. I was the only guest in the crowd that day who knew the second verse of You Are My Sunshine) was with the director character at the Studios.
He was sitting in a really, REALLY tall directors chair with a megaphone as the guests were entering the park. My husband pushes me up the street in the wheelchair and I'm holding my forearm crutch across my lap.
Director lifts his megaphone and says :"And here ladies and gentlemen, Hollywood's preeminent stunt woman. So sorry to hear about the accident, it was not my fault."
I replied "That's right! I told CB I'm never going to work under those conditions again!"
and again he just repeated "It was not my fault!"
such priceless memories, CMs make for us. Even when they don't know they're doing it.
