The entire story is cool, but I have to say this is really cool because I once had a summer internship where it was my job to break LVADs. I doubt the one she is using is from the company I worked for (we were a long way off from being ready for humans), but that would be so cool because I would actually know that the work I had done had helped someone. I know it probably will, but it is good to actually hear of a case where it did.Thriving, short-term, because of a battery operated mechanical pump, called and LVAD that keeps her heart beating.
Edit: After watching the video with the story, it appears they show the type of LVAD used in a few shots. If this is the one she has it is not the one I worked on.
