Bus Speed (or Nova Meth)

Post by Zazu » Thu Apr 30, 2009 5:44 pm

A question for drivers: What is up with the slow moving Disney buses on Vista Blvd? Everywhere else they seem to keep up with traffic, but not there. The posted limit is 45, but I've followed them at speeds as low as 25 in good weather with no traffic ahead. Are they just trying to control when and where they get their breaks? Or do they just have such low confidence in their brakes?

New drivers most likely or it's within 45 to 60 minutes and they are milking the run to avoid another run before end of shift. Breaks don't usually factor into this as depending on time of day, it's either break at Magic or break at TTC. If you are within 20 to 30 minutes of your break window, you will get your break so there is no advantage to milk the run during the shift, its only near quitting time where it makes a difference.

Remember, most new drivers are assigned Magic Kingdom as their hub until the next bidline goes into effect.

I can testify to having been behind these people, both on Vista and everywhere else... often while driving a bus of my own and wanting to pass them.

Sad part is, these people are milking the clock driving a Disney bus. A DISNEY bus. It's not hard work; in fact, it's the easiest bus driving I've ever done.

Any bus driver who milks the clock needs to go get a REAL job, where you REALLY work.

As far as the Vista thing, though... you never got stuck behind me. I pretty much always did speed limit +3 to 5 (when I wasn't following another bus doing 25).

For the record, I never hit any animals while driving a bus on Vista. INSIDE the campground, yes. But never on Vista. Vista is a road where you can safely open up the throttle a bit.

As far as new drivers and bidlines, do they normally get Kingdom? I understand it that they now have multiple hubs available... it's certain resorts they can't go to. That's just dumb. Makes too much work for coordinators, and becomes confusing for the drivers.

Two bus drivers told us that the MIM system isn't working well and the new buses won't even have the system installed. One of our drivers asked us Disney trivia questions all the way back to the resort. I asked how he was able to do that and he said as long as he held the microphone button down it would override the MIMS. Yayyy!

Yup, the new Gilligs don't have a box installed and since they have already been removed from the soon to be retired RTS's, It's my thinking that they won't be installed , ever. :-) I heard that the California crew won't spend another nickle on MIMs.

Rumor front has it that 40 new buses have been ordered, 20 Gilligs and 20 Nova's. The Nova's are susposed to be part of the settlement of the lawsuit over the couple of flame broiled Nova's. Notice that the last couple of new Nova's have a fire suppression system in them like the Gilligs.

BW, I don't know for sure if the new drivers can only bid MK or not. They did away with the G1/G2 training and are going back to the way we were trained.

Maybe I'll finally get trained in the woods.

Me either! :D:

(Unless I was driving an RTS that would not get out of its own way even with a rocket pack strapped to it)

No more G training! Yay! So it sounds like they're finding the old way worked. That is very cool.

I hope you get Woods trained. You'd have fun there. And in regards to RTS's that are stuck at 24 mph, I got one from MK to Pop and back. I watched four buses on the same route pass me by. When I got back to MK I asked for a short run for the above reason. They were quick to send me to maintenance.
